A while back in the Peri-Workout nutrition thread you posted this:
Recent studies show that YES it makes a difference if a second shake is ingested 60-90 min. post-workout.
YES it is also true that plenty of guys got strong without resorting to liquid nutrition (or to any supplements in fact), but if you had that kind of genetic you wouldn’t be here asking that question :).
In an ideal world, to stimulate as much growth as possible, and time permitting, you would have your para-workout protocol, 60-90 min. later another pulse shake and 30 minutes after that, you would have the big meal.
I looked quickly in PubMed for a study but didn’t find, could you post a link by any chance? I’m thinking of following this advice. Thanks

Eat big and lift hard. . . recent studies show that YES, it makes a difference!!!
Don’t take the above statement offensively in any way. I saw a similar post and thought it was funny, so I figured I’d use it here.
Anyways, studies will always negate each other. That is, one study will find one result while another might find that exact opposite. So go with what works best for YOU. If you have been seeing some positive results from a post workout shake and then a meal, stick with THAT. If not, go with the alternative you had mentioned. Just make sure that whatever you do lines up with your goals. For example, if you are bulking, you would do whatever would help you get the most calories in within the day.
Thanks Eric, yea i agree with you 100% its most important to get the nutrients in (in terms of calories i eat about 3500/day).
However I could see myself adding a second shake no problem if there are any benefits, since i rarely eat before 90 mins PWO anyways. I think Dave Barr might also recommend something similar.
It shows that the second PWO shake has as big anabolic effect as the first. The amino acid drink consisted of 0.087g of essential amino acids/kg body weight with water and artificial sweetener.
Hey guys, without any input from CT, decided to stick with 36g Whey PWO followed by solid meal about 1 hour later. I have fast acting carbs and protein peri-workout. In any case, I’m guessing it doesn’t make a huge difference.
