What would be a good alternative to liquid carbs for post workout nutrition? Would rice or sweet potatoes be bad choices?

Hello,
I’m going to take a wild guess here.
I think sweet potatoes would not be your best guess as they have a lower GI. Good for some foods that would get into your system very fast. Puffed Rice Cakes, most breakfast cereals or even white bread are all going to get into your system very fast.
And by the way, what do you have against just drinking your post workout shake?
Why would you not want liquid carbs? They are absorbed much faster than those in solid food.
if you mean ‘real’ foods… then go with mashed potatoes, dates, ripe bananas, and if those don’t suit you, look at a chart and choose the next highest GI foods you want. starchy, low fat of course. you would want more glucose and less fructose, which is why bananas are good. dates are 100 on the GI charts, taste damn good (if you ask me, date rolls ROCK) and are 50/50 on the sugar.
I am saddled with a whole host of food sensitivities and allergies. It really sucks. Maltodextrin is a big problem for me, although technically not allergy provoking. I didn’t mention liquid protein, but I am allergic to Whey. I’m hoping I can get away with just solid meals. I’m allergic to wheat, but I’m ok with rice, potatoes, dates and the other stuff that was mentioned. Thanks for the input.
White rice, the 5 - minute kind.
White potatoes.
But I agree with the others - a carb (dextrose) solution is the way to go. It needs no digestion, and gets into your system much faster than any type of “real” food.
Bananas.
Berries are really tasty too, although they don’t give you quite as wicked of an insulin spike.
This may sound silly, but what about refined sugar RIGHT after workout in the shake ? i.e. 46 g pro with let’s say 30g of sugar … that ought to make the insulin go through the roof ?
A friend of mine told me about this althought adding pure sugar makes me cringe a bit…
