Post Keto Diet Extreme Weight Gain

Guys I went off my keto diet for about 3 days and ate basically 1 huge meal everyday. A lot of food. The trouble seems to be I’m about 18lbs heavier in THREE days?. From 162lbs to 180lbs .And most of it is around the lower abdominal area. Now I was down to about 10% on the keto diet .So basically I’m screwed. Has anyone else experienced such quick post diet weight gain? If so any idea when the water retention goes down so I can assess the real damage?

  1. why one huge meal? why not several smaller meals ?

  2. did that meal contain lots of starchy carbs ?

well I had basically been dieting for close to four months and I guess I just let go for a bit. One huge meal because I couldnt eat anything for the next 18-20hrs oweing to the huge meal size. Well not excessively starchy carbs. Most of the carbs came from low carb high fiber tortillias but yes I did go overboard on the sweet stuff a little bit. But nothing like I used to before the diet which is why I’m kind of surprised at the level of weight gain.

You body was starved of the nutrients your depleted fat cells were waiting for.

Once you started eating especially one big meal a day, that and yes that little sugary treat filled those fat cell.

Need to get eating a balanced meal plan and recharge your metabolism that has more than likely taken a hit from the keto diet.

alot of that 18 lbs is water weight and glycogen replenishment.

yeah i don’t think that 3 days of one huge meal each is going to suddenly turn you into fat ass as long as you get back on track. and what elusive said=lots of glycogen+water=EXTREMELY FAST WEIGHT GAIN. think about all those dumb ads you see saying you can gain tons of weight in a very small amount of time.

Don’t sweat it, you can’t gain that much fat in three days. When I’m on a carb cycle program, my weight fluctuates nearly 5 pounds between high and low carb days.

I agree with the posts. You can easily gain 10 lbs in one day due to water retention and glycogen storage. I don’t see how 3 days would cause that much fat gain unless in that one huge meal you were committing total buffet annihilation.

You also said you were dieting for 4 months. When on a diet that long, you should try to come out of it slowly and work back up to a maintenance calorie level as your metabolism will be suppressed due to your being on a diet for so long.

Mostly water but 1 huge meal a day… wtf?

I think what he meant was that he ate so much all day that it was basically one huge meal.
