Porn Addiction

For the ultra-obese, a “content filter” could be the equivalent of getting their stomach stapled. This would stop them from having access to their hit while allowing their brain the time to “rewire”, and the individual in question to receive education on proper eating habits, etc. while reinforcing positive neural pathways (i.e. reward circuitry responding to broccoli).

Sounds logical doesn’t it?

Yeah, I remember that thread. I was actually going to edit my last post to say that the most important thing is a genuine desire to change. If you out-eat a gastric band to the point of death then you don’t really want to change quite enough.

But anyway, this is about porn.

As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, the key to understanding porn addiction is the novelty (or Coolidge) effect. This is when your libido receives a boost for a new partner, even if it has already reached satiety. For the sake of reproduction, it will perk up, and a sexually fatigued individual is able to go again with a new partner.

Now, your primitive brain is unable to distinguish between a real partner and one on a PC screen, so will keep on getting it up long after you have satisfied your natural libido. Heavy porn users literally out-wank their libido, which in turn affects their body chemistry.

This is the real problem with porn. The endless novelty proves to be too much for your reward system and you become desensitised as your dopamine receptors are overwhelmed.

Watch the video on yourbrainonporn.com for a better explanation (although the guy’s voice is very dull… I fell asleep watching it for the first time).
