Poor Man's Equipment Thread

Ah, what the heck. Kids added for scale.

When my dad was training to get into the FBI (circa 1974), there was a 50 yard shuttle run for 10 minutes. You have to complete so many back and forths to pass (I don’t remember the number). He trained by fireman’s carrying my mom (115lbs) for 50 yard sprints. He only weighed about 145lbs at the time. Needless to say, he passed easily without the weight. I incorporated this into my workout by carrying my kids for sprints.

An aside about my dad, he was 145 at the time, and during the bench press portion of the test, he put up 315lbs. He kept the score sheet signed by the instructor. We had it framed for his birthday.

McG78, sounds like your dad’s a stud!!

Not to draw away from some magnificent implements y’all have built but it’s about that time of year where bars/plates/etc. will be showing up on Craigslist and ebay after all the New Year’s resolutions have evaporated.

tru dat

Dips

Just built this tonight.

I’d like to get some tips and input from you guys on a little project I have in mind. Since I can’t Back Squat due to a screwed up shoulder I’m thinking it might work to weld handles onto an old bar so I can hold it in front but still have it on my back.

Do you guys have any ideas on the best way to attach metal rods to the old bar? It seems like end to bar would look the nicest and be the cleanest but I’m not sure it would be strong enough. Maybe some kind of wrap around design would be best. Thoughts? Experience?

Something like this: Bodybuilding and Weight Training from IronOnline

Haven’t used one (or anything similar), but it looks like it could be done w/ some welding skills.

I am super inspired. I don’t have money for a gym membership, so I presently am using nothing but an olympic weight set and bench.

Thanks for the link. That’s the exact idea. I hope I can get something similar done otherwise I’ll have to shell out the $175 for that thing.

Bump. Hoping someone from the weekend crowd will have some tips for me.
