Poliquin New Book

Wanted to restart this post. Has anyone read Poliquins new book. I am tempted to buy it but am afraid it will be a rip off and reprint of articles like his other two books. Look I like the guy and thank he is a great trainer knows his stuff etc BUT if I buy another book with crappy reprints well enough said. By the way I have Ian Kings book so there is no need to recommend it.

Chris, I recently ordered the book. It is on back order and won’t be shipped until March 5. I’m looking forward to it. From what I’ve read, the book will focus exclusively on sets and reps and the best combinations for strength or hypertrophy gains. It looks as though Poliquin is going to be releasing a series of these books focusing on different aspects of weight training. Maybe the next one will focus on the best combination of exercises and tempo. Or something like that. Once I get it, I’ll be sure to post my view!

Nate Dogg…I think I’m going to put my order in for the Big Guy’s new book. I’m a little neophyte follower of his, so I have to give it a go. I’ve only found one place to order from, did you order directly from his site? BTW, Nate Doggie Dogg, those were some rather vuluptuous photos submitted in this week’s Reader Mail. I appreciate it:-) How’s Massive Eating going for you, buddy?

Timbo, what can I say? I’m a follower of Poliquin as well. And I’m always looking for new training info. So I decided to give it a go and hope it’s better than some of his other books. As for ordering, yes I did go through his site for it. It won’t ship until March 5. As long as I get it, I’m happy!

As for this week’s Reader Mail, I’m glad you enjoyed the photo. Yes, I must say, those were some very voluptious young ladies. The one on the left is quite young too. She also works at another restuarant in town. And I’ve seen her at local clubs. You know, I don’t care for extra large breasts on a girl. And her breasts are way too big for her body. Oh well! It’s all good.

As for massive eating, I have leveled out. When I first started eating more, I gained 3-4 pounds in about two weeks. But now I'm having trouble eating more calories, so I'm holding steady. Man, this diet isn't easy. But at least I'm getting more calories and protein than I am used to. I'll keep you posted!

Nate Doggie Dogg, you’re one cool T-Bro, my man! I know a lot of peeps around here have some negative opinions about our guy Coach P, but I personally have nothing but a respect for the big dawg. He’s brought a bunch to this sport and I appreciate every bit of the atomic bombs of knowledge he drops on me. I’ve got so much out of the Principles…I’ve read that bad boy 4 times over and refer to it regularly. Sure, it’s a little cheesy and some of it’s rehash, but it’s all useful. As far as Massive Eating, I heard ya, buddy. I’m having trouble getting all my calories in and structuring the meals…I’m just dying for JB’s article (not that it’s actually going to be by my side feeding me or anything). We’ll see though. I’d appreciate you keeping me up to date and I’ll be sure to do the same. My order for New Trends will soon be processed.

Nate Dogg, have you tried adding more liquid meals from protein powder. It’s very easy to increase calories and doesn’t fill you up as much this way. In fact, I’m usually more hungry after drinking one. It’s cheaper than whole food sources of proetin too.

i have an early edition of the book i picked up at a seminar. The only repeat of information that i noticed was under his top 10 best strength gaining protocols, he repeats 3 that he listed in the maximal strength article (6x4 method, 5x5 method, and 5/4/3/2/1 method). He also basically reuses the 5 percent solution article. But pretty much all the other material in the book is new. I recommend it if you are interesting in knowing how to effectly manipulate loading parameters for strength or strength and hypertrophy. It isn’t a bodybuilding oriented book. No exercises were detailed in the copy i had.

Way to go Timbo! I’ve enjoyed Poliquin’s articles over the years. I must say that King has helped my training when it comes to developing a long-term plan that takes into account average genetics and recovery. Poliquin excels in creating short-term programs that help bring up muscle imbalances or shock your system into growth. They both have a lot to contribute, so I’m not going to diss either one.

John U, yes, I do use some liquid meals. In fact, a while ago, I realized I wasn’t getting enough protein. My breakfast was always low in protein. Here is how I eat now.
Meal 1: Grow! mixed with 16 ounces of milk and a banana. That gives me nearly 60 grams of protein each morning.
Meal 2: Boiled egg and cottage cheese
Meal 3: Leftovers (chicken breast, potato, veggies, yogurt)
Meal 4: Tuna fish and an apple
Meal 5: Post workout, Grow! mixed with 16oz milk
Meal 6: Chicken, beef, pork or fish with veggies and/or potato or ocassionaly rice.

So that gives me six meals a day and about 2800-3100 calories. I probably could have another shake in place of one of my other snacks, but I get kind of sick of drinking too many shakes each day. Also, it's not cheap! Even with the buy 2 get 1 free, I'm using three boxes of Grow! each month. Which means just a bit over $100 a month just for that. I still have regular food to buy and pay all my other bills. I can't afford to be taking more than two packs a day. I also use Tribex, Vit C, Vit E, Multi-vitamin, Gluc/Chon caps, ZMA and Fish oils. So my supplement bill isn't the cheapest thing.

I’m hoping Biotest will release the new post-workout drink soon. I would rather use that after my workouts, and save the shakes for my other meals. I think I can handle paying for that. Thanks for the tip! You guys have anymore for me?

Nate Dogg, I get much of my protein from the Protein Factory. I just customized my order so that I can get pretty cheap. I don’t use all the expensive ingredients like glutamine and EFA’s in the mix. Just your run-of-the-mill milk protein, whey isolate and caseinate. I have them add sucralose (Splenda) as the sweetener and a vanilla flavor. I ordered it with maltodextrin added, but I think next time I’ll just order the protein and add my own sugar. I want to keep the GI down a bit, and sucrose is moderate GI. Plus, I can have straight protein if I want to. I still use Grow! because it is so tasty, but it use it as an occasional treat. I wish I worked at Biotest so I can have it all the time, but oh well. A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
