SKIP- well, your actual insulin sensitivity is an individual thing (it’s genetic I would assume), but I truly believe that the majority of people who walk around saying that they’re insulin-sensitive, and can’t eat carbs or they’ll just “blow up” have basically convinced themselves of that simply because they don’t know how and when to make use of carbs (and that is why they usually don’t achieve the results that they otherwise could).
MAF14- On the whole, I cycle my total cals for the day, with carbs receiving the most focus simply because during a contest prep, you assume adequate levels of protein, so playing with your carbs (as they’re your main energy source) is the best way to adjust for the different energy requirements of your body on different days. Sure, there are days when I get a hell of a lot more protein, usually on my lower carb days. This isn’t something I go out of my way to do, but in choosing foods with a lower carb content, the amount of protein, or fat will usually be a bit higher. Also, even if your body should try to meet its energy requirements by breaking down excess protein (in the absence of carbs),… it will be more costly, as protein digestion is more calorically expensive (hence the ‘thermic’ effect you hear people talk about).
Hey Stu Im a bit confused. Ive read fat is most important in the diet as opposed to carbs. How come cutting the fat intake lower than atleast 30% of total calories helps? Wouldnt this give a deficit of EFA’s as well as omega 3’s helping to lower inflamation, also lowering fat oxidation during this period? Maybe im thinking too long term for your specification on chipping calories from the fat or even not clear on the level of fat intake your thinking.
Ive been serious on diet manipulation for only about 3 years so i havent had time to play around with everything but Ive found lower carbs (~50-100g) and higher healthy fats (~100-110g) works, but I have never done a show so Ive only been on cutting diets for 6-8 weeks. Would fat loss possibly stall by 12 or 13 weeks on something like this?
