In more related news, the next Assassins creed is expected out mid october, and has been officially acknowledged by ubisoft as Assassins Creed: IV Black Flag. New protagonist and its about pirates and shit.
The best news though, there was a web page that was quickly taken down that stated it would be available for next gen consoles. The wording was kind of weird, but it almost sounded like it would be available at release for next gen, which would imply that the PS4 could be out as early as october.
Official reveal is monday. Either way im psyched. Love the assassins creed series.
I’m not sure how I feel about the setting of the new AC game. I love the series too, and I was a HUGE fan of the second one. But pulling the storyline backwards into Caribbean pirating seems a little strange. I don’t know how I’d feel about the game taking place at sea again, like AC3’s Naval missions. Fun while they lasted, but spending entire missions out there regularly and being obligated to do so might get a little boring, provided they don’t revamp the way sea-faring battles happen, to be more fun.
Seems like it would kind of leave out any really great architecture too, a small Caribbean port might not have the scale and planning to really make use of AC’s early tall structures ,chase scenes and the incredible hay-dives they had.
Feels to me like they’re dragging on Desmond’s story too, to me they jumped the shark with AC3 concerning intermediary plot points, wish they’d just have taken the fourth one and made it into the final climactic title focusing around Desmond and his chronologically forwarded decisions in the “present” leading up the destruction or saving of the Human race.
I hold a couple of scepticisms about it, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it regardless, but I kind of wish they’d stop milking it dry and deal with the story before the revelations of the last title get old and bore-some.
I hear ya on the concerns. Im skeptical about some aspects as well, but all-in-all i know ill enjoy it. I thought ACIII was the worst (least good?) entry in the series other than the first one but i still loved it. The entire Ezio trilogy is fantastic in my opinion, revelations included, but II is still the best.
Despite the concerns there are a few reasons why i think the latest entry will be at least as good, if not better than III and why im interested. First, Desmond is dead, so im really curious to see who is in the animus this time around, and why. Also, a next gen graphics assassins creed will look incredible. As far as the whole pirating thing, i have to think that there will be a greater emphasis on naval battles/travel, but knowing this im SURE ubisoft is implementing ways to make things more interesting/exciting, add additional elements and in general just make it a more enjoyable experience. They have to know you couldnt build a whole game around the naval battles from III alone.
Another thing is im sure there will be substantial cities likely on par with ACIII on some Caribbean islands such as jamaica or haiti. Wont be the giant cities from Italy but still good enough for some nice free-running. Another thing to consider is that roaming the wilderness on caribbean islands will probably be way cooler than roaming the forests in ACIII.
Either way, cant wait til the official unveiling monday. Should answer a lot of these questions.
