Some of you need to stop concerning yourselves with the new PS4 and concentrate on the weight you’re putting up at the gym.
Overheard some dudes talking about computer games at the gym a couple of months ago. I kind of lost it and annihilated them with a 15lb barbell. They’re still trying to clean up all the splatter stains.
I talk about computer games at the gym all the time with my 6’6" 300lb training partner :)
One swing of the barbell and both of you are finished.
Gaming seems like a waste of time honestly. You pick up the controller, turn on the damn thing and then essentially burn 2, 3 or how ever many hours of your free time. Is it worth it? Why? Or is it just addicting and you can’t stop even though you know you’d be better off if you did?
Honestly what do you care what other people do with their free time? Not to talk shit, but this thread is obviously about video games yet you come in here to bash them. I could care less about what you do with your free time, so why did you care about what I do with mine?
I don’t care, when did I say I did? I transitioned from a comical post to a serious question trying to understand the psyche of gamers. I don’t think I said anything that is actually offensive, especially given the environment I thought I was in (read: T-Nation, emphasis on the T). Seems to me some on here are a little too insecure. At least the pig freely admits he’s a nerd.
People game to have fun, maybe compete with buddies on sports games etc. Why do you lift? That’s a waste of time. You could be reading books, gaining knowledge etc. I understand you asked a serious question but people are going to give you a wide range of answers. I have played videos games since I was like 10, maybe earlier, they’re awesome. You can immerse yourself in a story or a different world like Halo or Metal Gear Solid. It is a form of entertainment. You can even make money by playing video games.
Edit: Also, the Pig is a tool bag. Please stop with your ridiculous posts. People have preferences with gaming, consoles appeal to more people. No one gives a fuck about how awesome you or your PC is.
Thank you for the reply. This is exactly the kind of post I envisaged when I asked my question.
You’ve made it clear, and you’re right about it being just another form of entertainment. When I look at gaming as entertainment in replacement of other popular forms of entertainment like TV and whatever the fuck you can do on smartphones now, I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I think I just have this (incorrect) perception that anyone who is passionate enough to care about the console war between Microsoft and Sony is devoting a hell of a lot of time to gaming. I guess it’s more of a cultural thing than an actual unnecessary nerd debate.
I’ll also add that my dad has this thing against gaming that’s kind rubbed off on me. I couldn’t even play Tetris without him calling me out.

I do not care for the console war either, I have owned both a PS3, Xbox 360, and I have a gaming PC. The thing with this upcoming generation is how Microsoft is completely fucking over the customer and being greedy. People are mad at the company so obviously they are going to praise its rival. I will be getting a PS4 and the Xbox One can collect dusts on shelves around the country, it deserves too.
I do not know how old you are but if you have some spare money or whatever, you should give this generation or the next a try. There are lots of great games coming out in the future months. I know you have heard of Grand Theft Auto, who hasn’t. A new one comes out in September, 5 years after the last one I believe. That would be a cool game to get started on. Who cares what people say or your dad about gaming. People will call you a meat head for lifting. Anyway, just thought I would offer some insight.
