Playstation 4 Announced

Yeah, I don’t know who is making decisions at Microsoft right now but they are highly questionable. They get so obsessed with picking up the portion of the market share that they don’t have that they make a product that doesn’t do what they do well any longer and it doesn’t do what the people they were trying to attract well either and keep releasing this shit. I just cannot understand that.

Im waiting until 6 months after launch when we find out theres another fatal design flaw like with the 360. That would be the end of Xbox for sure hilarious icing on the cake and would seal microsoft’s videogame division’s fate.

Yeah, they actually gained a little ground when Sony tripped up with the PS3 but with the Xbox1 they are essentially giving it all back and then some. Which they even said as much, with the “If you don’t have hi speed internet then stop listening now because we are not releasing a console for you.”

Don’t forget that the original Xbox banked on customers have an ethernet connection as well, and that actually turned out pretty well, although, it wasn’t a requirement to be able to play a game.

I’d still like to hear a reason for the 24-hour check-in though. Don’t understand why it can’t be like Steam: you connect once to the internet to validate the game you just purchased and then you can play it offline indefinitely.

Also, for all their emphasis on requiring the internet and the cloud, they could’ve done a bit more to elaborate/show what benefits that would bring as far as gameplay and/or other services. The only game I can think of right now that would use that kind of technology would be Destiny from Bungie, and they used the PS4 in their demo and it was running fine on there, so I assume whatever Microsoft is claiming will be made better by the cloud will run just as fine without it. As far as the set-top box, Skype, etc…yeah…not interested. As far as touting it as a media player, if it’s not going to have XBMC on there, whatever they have is probably crap.

On the other hand:

That sounds REALLY interesting. If they can use that to provide some backwards compatibility, or as a demoing feature, that would be AWESOME. Of course, it’s contingent on having a good internet connection, but it’s not something they’re forcing on us.

Seems like this is just a big case of bad marketing (along with some bad decisions) on Microsoft’s part.

Truth be told, I’ll probably be getting both somewhere down the line, although I will definitely get a PS4 first because I MUST PLAY inFamous Second Son. With console exclusives being a thing of the past, the determining factor that’s probably going to determine success is online play. I ended playing most titles on Xbox 360 because Live was/is a much better service than PSN.

From what I can tell, a lot of these requirements that they keep trying to sell as necessary to make the console the best it can be are actually ways to make sure they make as much money as possible. Kill the second hand game market and the ability for friends to trade. Which all I really see their is something to piss people off with.

One thing that is irking me here. The people who are hating on the XB1 are saying people should get a PC. Do these people know how many people are clueless over PCs?

The last thing I want is for the base price of components to shoot up because loads of people enter the market and buy all sorts of stuff based on tutorials created by Angry Joe, FrankieOnPC etc.

I honestly think M$ must have been banking on the fact that PS4 was going to implement similar restrictions so people would have to accept it. Or they were probably expecting PS4 to launch at 600 bucks again like the PS3. Or both.

I would have liked to have seen the looks on their faces during the Sony conference when all of this was revealed lol.

Ive pretty much heard no one say this. Ive heard a lot of PC elitists say they would simply stick to it, but i doubt Xbone being a bust will lead to any significant increase in new PC gamers.

PC >>>>>>>>>>> XBox >> Play Station

Reading Sony fanboys brag about the greatness of the POS4 is like listening to a bunch of AMish kids bragging about how cool their new wagons are.

Whoa there bud… No need to bring the Amish into this. This man is obviously fan boy.

Well there are already reports that MS is having yield problems with the ESRAM for the Xbox One, and supposedly they had to lower the clock speed to help pro-long the life by reducing heating issues. Some reports have said with the lower clock speed, the PS4 is ~50% faster/more powerful than the Xbox One.

I really don’t understand how a company can make this much of a misstep in decision making, I am half way waiting for Microsoft to make a video going “PSYCH, GOTCHA of course we are not going to require these ridiculous things.” I do hope that Microsoft comes to their senses and does away with the DRM and 24/7 (for those asking why Microsoft is requiring the once every 24/7 access, it’s to enforce the DRM). Why? Not because I am some crazy fan of the Xbox but I’d prefer the gaming industry to have more competition and more choices rather than less. This makes a more enjoyable gaming experience in my book.

I never understood why nerds thought that being PC elitists would be the one thing they could actually brag about that lent them any sense of superiority. It just cements your nerd status.

PC elitists also tend to be the most ignorant of all when it comes to the benefits of console gaming. I think the bright lights of a monitor over 27" hurts their eyes or something…all that basement dwelling, you see.

I suppose he’s one of those guys claiming he can build a rig for 400 bucks or under capable of all the same shit the PS4 is. Funny how ive yet to see anyone actually do it.

Hadnt heard that, if its true im sure itll show as time goes on and developers really begin to squeeze everything they can out of these rigs.

Just look at the difference between uncharted 1 and 3. Uncharted 1 was the best looking thing anyone had seen on consoles when it launched near the beginning of PS3’s life, Uncharted 3 managed to look like it was an entire generation ahead of it. The same will most certainly happen with the PS4, possibly to an even greater degree.

You say that as if it’s a bad thing. I’ve owned every console since Sega Genesis. In fact, I played mario kart on the N64 just this week. I may be a nerd, but my superiority comes from actually playing both and knowing the best when I play it.

My PC is hooked to a 70" Sharp LED HDTV. I can’t really make out the rest of what you said because it has been drowned out by your screaming fail.

I am an elitist geek. I spent over $1500 on my box. LMAO at the POS fanboys bragging about 4th gen video cards and 5th gen CPU’s.

So you are saying that your 1500 dollar PC gaming rig is superior to a 400 dollar console. Thats like telling someone your ferrari is better than their ZR1 just because you paid a shit ton more for it.

For 400 dollars, there is not going to be any better gaming and entertainment option than the PS4.

And for most people, it is far more convenient to have a console hooked up to a huge plasma than a PC. I swear you PC elitists must feign ignorance to help justify your console bashing.

FWIW i spent 2500 on my PC.

By any metric you can possibly use. And - I hate to be the bearer of truth - it’s not even that close.

What a douche. You were projecting your love of cheapness onto lovers of REAL technology, now you want to use $400 as some sort of breakover point. My GPU cost more than your POS4, and the performance difference is worth every penny.

There are “most people”, and then there are the elitists. What “most people” want versus what elitists deserve is just a fact of life. Don’t hate me because I refuse to settle for what is convenient for the sheeple.

LMAO. Paying someone $2500 to build your system means you have about $800 worth of parts. But if it makes you feel like a big boy to brag about your stupidity - who am I to stop you?

Some of you need to stop concerning yourselves with the new PS4 and concentrate on the weight you’re putting up at the gym.

Overheard some dudes talking about computer games at the gym a couple of months ago. I kind of lost it and annihilated them with a 15lb barbell. They’re still trying to clean up all the splatter stains.

Thread was good until the pig got here. I’m a PC guy too but you don’t see me losing my shit over it. Get a hold of yourself pig.

Edit: also I cannot believe you actually used the word sheeple lol

I talk about computer games at the gym all the time with my 6’6" 300lb training partner
