I’m in my 3rd week of an OVT cycle and my progress has stopped. From week 1 to week 2, I made good progress on the load. But this week, I tried addding 5 lbs. to each lift to keep progressing, but I couldn’t handle the added weight. Am I concerning myself over nothing here? Thanks.
ur dead by midnight tonight, so go ahead and get that will out of the way
in all seriousness, a buddy of mine at the gym on an OVT cycle notices he lagged in the 3rd and 4th week, but says picked it up considerabley from there, again, im no expert, but i wouldnt go running making sacrifices to the T-gods at the T-alter quite yet…
It’s quite normal considering that OVT is what I call an overreaching program. The goal is to induce short term overtraining (overreaching) and then to give the body time to recover by performing an easier form of training for 2-4 weeks (lower volume, higher intensity… HST is good for that purpose). This will actually cause delayed gains. In other words most of the gains from OVT will occur in the 2 weeks AFTER the end of the program from a rebound anabolic response following a decrease in volume. This is what we do with athletes to have them peak.
So it’s quite normal to have a decrease in progress or an increase in fatigue by weeks 3 and 4.
You can, however, increase your calories by 10-15% for the next 1-2 weeks. This will help you resume your progress.
