Planning my next block of 531

Hi Jim,

I posted the following to the EliteFTS QA, but I know you don’t get on there much anymore so I posted it here as well.

I have been following the 28 week sample program you provided in Beyond 531, combined with the BBB 27 week variation you recommended. I have three weeks left with this program, and presently am beginning to plan out the next 6 months of my training.

In the next block, I am going to focus on conditioning and mobility/flexibility, as these are two areas I believe are holding me back.

I am writing you to ask your opinion on the following plan for the next 24 weeks of training:

-2 days per week training template on page 59 of the ebook for 12 weeks
-Singles, Speed, Size from page 71 for 12 weeks

A little background on me- 28 years old, 5’9", 205 lbs, about 11% body fat, fairly athletic. I am a police officer, so I spend a lot of my day sitting/driving in a car. My goals are overall strength/health/mobility/athleticism to perform my job tasks and not feel like a pile of shit.

Anything you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, and it goes without saying that 531 has benefited me greatly in my pursuit of strength.

Thank You,

Joe

There is a 2/2/2 program in Beyond 531 that would probably suit your needs. Page 59

I’m a big fan of training 2 days a week and believe that for most people, well those that care about lifting and have a life outside the weight room, this is the way to go. Strangely enough every person that has trained with me has gotten stronger training this way. However it’s rare in the Internet world.

Stick to training 2 days a week. There are numerous (dozens) of templates to choose from. Keep the jumps and throws in and all conditioning needs to be done for movement and aerobic capacity. Stretching would be key too. So 30 minutes a day of flexibility and mobility. 30 minutes of AirDyne (all I recommend). On training days, do jumps and throws.

This is what I recommend. I don’t make any compromises in my training and when your job and life is on the line, why would you?

No Prowler work either. Obviously.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Jim. I agree- there is no room for compromise in my training, either, because my job and life does not give me the leeway to compromise. You say obviously no Prowler work, but I don’t know why. Would you mind giving me a brief explanation?

Because of your description that you gave me. That’s what I based my RX on.

lol at username and profession

Ok. Thank you again for the reply and assistance. You have helped me a great deal in planning my next block, Jim. I really appreciate it.
