Cosgrove said in a seminar with a disclaimer: “I’ve never had an original idea in my life… even that joke I stole from someone else” something along those lines.
In the fitness world you’re not going to come up with many ideas of your own. It’s all rehashed stuff from somewhere.
It would be nice to give credit when words are copied word for word.
I happen to teach my clients a lot of nutritional info based upon Berardi’s work. Sometimes I’ll mention him, other times I may not if it doesn’t flow well with the conversation. Does that make it wrong?
copying stuff word for word and selling it as your own IS WRONG.
It is most basic and fundamental form of plagiarism and is illegal.
There are no two ways about it.
if he had just put the sentences together differently it might have been passable, but he didnt (and may or may not constitute breach of intellectual property but lets not worry about that for the minute).
What you do talking to your clients and what Cosgrove have done are nothing alike.
If you had an electronic copy of Berardi’s stuff and copied and pasted it into a word file and put your name on the front and sold that to your clients …

Also, the amount of time it took to write & compare this all is mind boggling.
Looking over more of it, I can see where copying word for word is not right, but learning from others and putting it in your own words is now wrong?
No body is saying that learning for yourself and putting it in your own words is wrong. If that was the case there would not be anything said or written ever. There are however some limits as to what can be taken - even in that sense. You cant sit there with a thesaurus and just change words for example…
The main problem with Alwyn is that he copied word for word.

Sorry, I was referring to some of what was posted, not the exact word for word copying.
For example, there was a King vid posted the other day where he talked about AC going over different versions of a bent over row and different hand positions. All of which is nothing new, yet he seemed to make a big deal out of that.
Other examples of word for word is different, I’m not that dense, lol

Yeah and you bring up a good point.
King has weakened his argument but harping on about stuff that doesnt matter.
He should have stuck to the really big stuff - and there is plenty of it, certainly enough for it to be very clear what has happened.

Just for the record, it’s very nice to see this thread filled with people from 2003-05 who i haven’t seen post in a long time.
You have no idea the horrors we’ve endured…
Nice to be missed! Kind of like when the original Justice League slowly got replaced with all those obscure, knock-off heroes, eh? Take a rest and let the old war horses handle the duuuhh… for awhile.
Mad Duck is harsh but fair. I teach at a university, and some of the stuff King has come up with would not just earn you an F, it could get you expelled.
What I donâ??t get is why nothing substantial has happened. The Lyle thing is all over the internet, but thereâ??s just silence on this. I donâ??t even see how the OP got the link in the first post â?? thereâ??s no link to it I can find even on Kingâ??s site (though there is a nod to Bricknyce on his blog); thereâ??s also no talk of a lawsuit, or anything else.
It would be shocking if he just copied and pasted a bunch of shit and expected to get away with it. The crime seems almost too poorly thought out to be true.
any word on a reply from Alwyn yet?
Any word from T-Nation officials? I recall they contacted Alwyn and brought to light information that we were not aware of after the scandal concerning Lyle.
Would be good if the could post any background information that we may not be aware of like last time.

KING has come up with or Cosgrove?
Who did King plagiarize from?
Come on, Mods, alert TC to this thread so he can contact Alwyn.

King “came up” with in the sense that he compiled the incriminating information.
