Squat
45x12x2; 135x8; 185x5; 225x10x10 with 60secs rest in bet all 10 sets
Bench Press
45x8x2; 135x8; 185x5; 205x8x10 - rested bet sets approx. 60-120secs as needed
I did this workout especially to see if I would get an exertional headache/migraine. When I have done higher reps in the squat, I sometimes get these massive headaches. I got none this time, BUT I don’t think the weight was heavy enough. I know i get them when I try between 315 and 405 for higher rep sets and I got one when i tried to max out for my informal meet in the garage and I was only doing singles!
All I got from this workout, is again, more soreness!!! When the soreness wears off, off will start training for the Dec contest in PA and cycle down from sets of 4-8 reps in Oct to 2-3’s in Nov.
Hope all is well with the regular readers of this thread.

10x10 on the squats, i want to throw up thinking about that one. probably means i should do it every now and then for conditioning.

Greetings from Missouri. QT, Jimmy I know you guys would appreciate this. Today doing partial DLs in the rack I pulled off a callous down to the hide. Bled like a stuck hog. Scared the youngsters. The 30 somethings think I’m wacked, it’s great. Keep the thread going it’s inspirational. The best to you,
Barry

Barry,
I hope you are not going to let a little flesh wound stop you from lifting…I remember the first time I tore a callus, it kinda hurt, but no where near the pain i felt when I took a shower after the workout and the water hit it…OUCH!!!

A gymnastics coach friend of mine showed me a way of taping he devised so I could still lift… Though I have only torn one twice since, I still remember that the first time water hits it…LOOK OUT!!!
Heal up/speedy recovery

Jimmy,
Be careful!!! I hope you are able to compensate by going conventional and train around the injury somewhat.

QT,
I’m stretching and jumping in the whirlpool at the gym.I sit on a heating pad at home too!I like to do back outs and set up too.Your squat is moving along strong bro.TRAIN HARD! Jimmy T

Jimmy,
Thanks for your encouragement…of late, my squat sucks!!! I am trying to go back to squatting twice/week to see if I can make it come around a bit. Squatting once/week has gotten me progressively weaker.

In the past, on my light day i worked singles almost to failure; on my heavy day I picked a weight percentagewise of that near max single and did mutiple sets of reps with it. So if on light day I did 550x1 on my heavy day I would take 80-85% for reps for maybe 2-3 sets if I had enough stamina.

The next week I would try for a higher single(but still sub-max) and do maybe 90-95% for 2-3 reps x 2 sets if possible. The next week I would try for a higher single but now drop on the heavy day to 65-70% x 5-8 reps x hopefully 2-3 sets.

On my heavy day after the single, I would load the bar higher from week to week with a heavy weight for 1 walkout which I took of pins, walked back set up, and held weight for 5-10 secs while slightly bouncing the weight by unlocking and locking my knees. I’m gonna try something like this up to the contest in Dec.

10/07/06 - Saturday
Squat - raw and paused in bottom for 1-2 seconds
45x10x2; 135x8; 185x5; 225x3; 275x2; 315x1; 350x3x3(Harder than I thought it would be)
BP - every rep in workout paused
45x6x2; 135x6; 185x3; 225x1; 260x4x2
CG BP off pins with pauses 1-2 secs
225x5; 275x3; 305x2x2
