QuarterTonner,
I’m going to Killeen next week on saturday,I live 2.5 hous from there.my training partner and I can’t wait.Work was real bust this week,so I backed off training a bit.Not to mention three kids in little league. But I love it and I’m blessed.

Today is bench day and seeing you put up those numbers inspires me.You know from competing in the past that set up in the squat is all important.I know you will rise to the challenge!I pull in a wrestling singlet and a snug belt,in a conventional stance.I bench in a Inzer single ply blast shirt.I squat in a Titan centurion and groove briefs.

sounds like good conservative openers, with reasonable jumps based on what your trianing has been going like. i see you having a 9 for 9 day. good luck big man!

HT - since I’m not going to the contest, I’m backing off a notch. Still training, but not pushing so hard - maybe good or bad, I’m not sure yet. I still plan on getting my lifts done in front of 3 judges in May - either at a sanctioned contest or inviting them to my garage. When at home, I feel less pressure - I perform better in the garage than at a contest most of the time. I’m comfortable/secure in familiar surroundings; the contest throws me off some, I’m not sure why or whether I’ll ever change at this stage of my life.

I find I have more pysche at a contest but too many distractions. Getting in line for warm-ups; time bet. last warm-up and first attempt not always optimal, timing of wrapping etc, commands, music being played etc. Most of the time I’m by myself with no coach so I bring this upon myself; with help there is less distractions.

this sounds soo familiar Art! it’s very much how i feel about competing at this stage in my life too.

HT & Jimmy,
Thanks for your continuous encouragement and suggestions!!!
I don’t know why, but today(Friday) I’m nervous and edgy! Yesterday all I did was jog/walk with the dogs, in fact it was more walking 'cause it was hot and the dogs were foaming at the mouth.

When I don’t work out regularly, I get depressed and moody; that’s how I feel today even though I know I have some heavy lifting to do tomorrow. With only two real workouts and 1 BS one this week, I feel like I needed to do more.

My weight this morning after a healthy dump was 196.25. I will be eating normally today + adding creatine at all three main meals.
Tomorrow I hope to be close to 198 and since I’m not nursing any aches or pains, a 9 for 9 day would be nice! I’m disappointed in my potential squat numbers but happy with all the rest.
As soon as the ‘mini meet’ finishes, I will post the ‘results’. THANKS AGAIN for all your help and kind words!
Art

QT,
I’ll be thinking about you on saturday.
Focus, determination, love for the sport will drive you towards your goals! The desire lies deep inside you,and you will rise to the challenge.Best of lifting to you brother! You gotta believe!Lift strong and hard!Jimmy T

Back from Killeen and the lifting was outstanding.Going to Ameriquest Field to the Yankee/Ranger game today for Little League day.I met Melinda, she was judging and is a very nice lady.I followed A.Byas as he is my competition at M3 181.The 198 class rocked too!You would have been right in the thick of it all.Your lifts were awesome and that deadlift of yours is well on it’s way to 600.That soreness feels sooo… good!Congradulations on your lifts and I’ll talk with you during the week.TRAIN HARD! Took dogs for 2 mile jog/walk
Took weekend off from lifting entirely; Saturday just had too many things to juggle and Sunday was Mother’s Day and I didn’t want to be selfish!
Not sure if I’m going to continue this thread…the contest is over; I didn’t go but took a mini meet in my garage. I was happy about most aspects & disappointed in my squat, especially the massive headache - I’m worried my pressure was too high. I usually train differently in the Summer. I don’t follow a regular routine. I pretty much do exercises I never normally include in my PL workouts. When I squat, I do it for high reps, usually 20’s and hopefully working up to 405-455 range by Summer’s end. I don’t BP, but I substitute more inclines and declines and more overhead stuff. I continue to DL once per month and I work to failure, whatever weight that happens to be. Usually I’m fatigued because the jumps are small near the end of the workout and it seems I do a lot of singles within 25-40 pounds of each other until I fail. I try to hit my abs more from all angles and I continue pulling the chain and jog/walking. My wife says I should try to find a local PL or OL meet in the fall.
I will check HT’s thread consistently as I find the workouts you do very original and I get some good ideas I like to incorporate in my own workouts from him.
Jimmy, keep up the good work and knock 'em dead at the contest. Train hard and safe!

Past week did exercises i haven’t done in awhile & utilized the Swiss ball when appropriate.
Workouts were short in length and fun for the most part…this week looks like more of the same + more running/jogging/walking
