Did my “mini meet” & am starting to feel the effects of it as I type this post(1/2 hour post-workout). I’ll probably be trashed the whole weekend; will just take the dogs for a long walk today & tomorrow.
I tried to leave something in reserve on all three lifts…
Squat - I felt I had at least another rep or another 20-25 pounds in me!
BP - The 315x1 was a limit lift; not another ounce in me! The pause seems to make it so hard and slow-moving.
DL - I had a tiny bit more in me but my Hams/Low Back were just starting to complain…so I left it at that!
If DLing only, today, if feeling good, I was probably good for another 15-20 pounds. The bar moved off the ground nicely on all lifts and had nice steady pace to lockout. All things considered, I’m happy with my lifting today. I have no doubt that if done in a contest, every warm-up and top lifts would have been all white lighted by judges.

Jimmy T, I think this year’s goal should be to go to NJ late in the year. We can book it through my travel agency and get the best deal Maybe HT could join us. What a hoot that would be. Then we can hit a buffet and really scare some folks.
Hitting the university gym tomorrow, I love going to a place where no one knows ya. Especially an x-baseballer. Should be fun. I’m going to leg press starting with 2 plates and running up to 11 or 12. Took off 3 days so I’ll have a bunch in the tank. God bless the guys.
If you guys are even thinking of coming to Jersey, keep me informed!
i thought I’d be OK today, BUT I AM NEAR_CRIPPLED with soreness/aches/pains from yesterday’s workout. Did not even take dog for a walk!
Be hearing from all during the week…enjoy the change in the weather and train hard and safe!
Too sore, lazy, unmotivated to train!
Instead…
Chain Drag - 30 minutes total
Mostly backwards intervals, but some forwards, then took the dogs for a 60 min walk.

Still in my slump! My son is training for a marathon and had no one to run with so instead of a weight workout, I did a 5-mile run through the trails with him. I watched his ass for about 7 minutes, then he and I both ran by ourselves…so much for running together!
His time for 5 miles was 31 minutes…my time was 52 minutes. I took the two dogs with us too…they ran about 12 miles and looked no worse for the wear. On the other hand, when I finished & for about 45 minutes after, I looked and felt like crap. I run routinely, both at work and at home, but running through those hills and the heat got to me. I wish i squatted or DL’ed instead!!!
Rob Wagner is having an unofficial/informal contest at his gym where the USAPL States were held on Fri, May 11. Maybe I’ll head down and give him a hand & try to get motivated again.
I just think things at both jobs are wearing me down a bit and my life outside of work, including workouts, are suffering!
Hopefully next post will be an honest-to-goodness workout log!
Last week was a Jimmy T week. Drove about 900 miles calling on 7 hospitals amd 8 eye clinics. After the rest, Mondays DL were strong but the form was suspect. Imagine that? The volume was through the roof and my lower back was trashed which felt wonderful. Up to 455X5(floor), Finish 365X8, rack pull 635X3, Good morning 1X135X10,2X2225X10 Grip work.
Time to go and eat and rest. Today pressing, all paused just for QT. Wanted to do some DB snatches but hamms too sore from Monday. Shoulder work instead. It’s May, that means Indy 500. I’m stoked. My buddy Jon from Texas that Jimmy T met is coming to MO and we’re heading to the black iron joint. HEAVEN
AWESOME stuff Barry!!! You are starting to take things to the next notch! I like that you are being more critical of your own lifting. Keep it up; it will pay the dividends all the way to the bank!

Thanks JimmyT!!! Taking the week off from lifting…have been playing a 7 inning game of softball with the kids every day this week except Monday, then came home to either run or take dogs for a long walk.
