Physical Job, Sleep, and Lifting

I have been reading T-Nation for awhile now but don’t recall reading anything to help me find an answer to my question but if there is indeed an article/post that answers this that evaded my search feel free to direct me to it. And now to my question…

I recently started working a physically demanding job on top of my workout which hits the muscles not hit during work. Which wouldn’t be that big of a deal if it wasn’t for the fact that it is a part-time night position and I still work a full-time day job. I am eating more to compensate for the extra calorie output so I am not so worried about muscle loss (actually quite the contrary, I have seen decent gains), I am more worried about recovery time.

I am used to getting 8 - 10 hours of sleep a day. I am now getting anywhere from 4 - 8 and not always in one lump sum either. This is noticably affecting my recovery time. I work M - F at the part-time job and am sore by wednesday and stay sore until Sunday.

Outside of getting more sleep does anyone know of anything I can do to help the situation at all?

Make sure your test levels remain high. If they are normal to high normal it can help offset somewhat your situation of not getting optimal sleep recovery.

Also, like you are doing get sleep whenever you can in the form of naps and such. If you aren’t already try Alpha Male and ZMA in your supplementation to keep test production high.

Take care,

D

Get extra sleep whenever possible, take Alpha Male or Tribulus and ZMA and make sure you’re eating a lot (which I see you are).

You may have to adjust your work out. When I start a new aspect of a job I quit working out until I settle into a predictable schedule and energy use.
