It is time to stop this atrocity. The Japanese hardly even eat whale meat anymore.
I think they continue whaling as a way to save face.
I agree with Nelson from the simpsons on the whales stance: Nuke the whales because we have to nuke something.

I don’t get it, why do we need whales? Will krill over populate the sea and kill everything if we don’t have whales? Nothing really hunts them and they don’t hunt anything back (exception killer whale).
What is their purpose in the food chain??

Everything has its purpose in the food chain, whether it is apparent or not - from the most minute to the largest creature.
I just signed the petition. There are a lot of Australian names on the list. Come on USA, you can do better! Show that you give a shit about what happens beyond your own backyard.

Very true, but no one has been able to say why we need them in the food chain. I by no means think we should go out and kill them all!
But if people hunt them and use the meat why not?

The ‘scientific research’ is called ‘diplomacy’.
Other countries can’t actually demand that another country stop hunting a particular animal.
The scientifically slaughtered whales do end up on dinner tables.

What is disgusting is when they come into Australian waters. That is a big no-no. I’m all for a few rounds into their hull.
What I don’t get is the stupidity. I don’t see the problem with eating whale but they need to better manage this resource. If you kill all the whales then there will be none to eat soon enough.
Oh yeah. While we’re on the topic of abusing natural resources:
I won’t mind if you Americans stopped using all of that fucking oil.
And Australians probably need to do the same.
