Persistent Guy's Training Log Continues

Heh, well, I’m not entirely sure if doing reps that high is all that useful for building muscle, but I figure I’ve mostly been doing low rep squats for years so it’ll be a good idea to do this for a few weeks for a change.

Today:

1x11: deadlift 173 kg
6x4, 2x3: pullup 26 kg
3x8: pullup

And since this thread has now hit 1000 replies, a bit of video, one of the sets of pullups. Doing weighted pullups the cheap way. I’m about 85 kg now, btw, so 187 lbs, 44 years old. Don’t look terribly impressive, but considering I started lifting at age 30 and 62 kg, hopefully not bad.

And for contrast, here’s the fattest-looking picture of myself I can find, from 2013. Probably 94-95 kg. Gonna look for shirtless pre-lifting pics from years ago, to show how skinny I was.

3x5: pause deadlift 159 kg
3x12: bentover row 73 kg
3x8: cheat curl 49 kg

1x80: back squat 69 kg

1x5: military press 77 kg
3x12: seated db press 16 kg

I just read about a sheep squatting competition in some remote place called Tuva. The winner squatted the ~50kg sheep 104 times this year.

If you want to spend a ton of your money to travel to the end of the earth so you can win a live sheep as a prize, I bet you have a decent chance of winning if you train for it

Haha, well, I like some Tuvan hip-hop, so there’s that. I don’t think I could win… sheep’s gonna have its center of gravity further back than a barbell and higher, so you can’t really stand up straight and take a few breaths. But I’ll have to see if I can find video of this… I remember seeing some guy from around those parts squat a camel.

So, today:
1x6, 1x5: deadlift 183 kg
6x4: pullup 26 kg
3x8: pullup

And some patriotic Tuvan hip-hop… well, the second rapper is Mongolian, but…

Went lighter on the presses trying to do them with really strict form - no leaning back, no looking up, no using the knees as shock absorbers. Didn’t quite get there on the last reps tbh. I figured I should try, though, I’ll do plenty of ugly push-pressing with heavier weights in a few days anyway…

3x4: pause deadlift 169 kg
3x12: bentover row 73 kg

No curls. Due to running around the outskirts of town to take a look at a replacement for my dead gas furnace, didn’t have time to start lifting till 9 PM. Could’ve done curls, but at this point, really… eh.

1x12, 2x10: Zercher squat 93 kg
1x2: military press 85 kg
1x3: military press 81 kg
1x5: military press 75 kg
3x12: seated db press 16 kg

Humid and fairly hot day, no AC. Thought about going for that set of 100 back squats, but then realized I’m covered in sweat before I even started lifting, and this is not the day to attempt that feat. Maybe next week. Or maybe in November.

2x6: deadlift 183 kg
6x3: pullup 28 kg
3x8: pullup

Still looking for old pics of when I was skinny.
