Thanks man, I think I am very close to my goal of 120 kg. I don’t think that I’ll peak for it right now
I think you are right. Maybe spend some more time at that weight working on leg drive and lockout speed and 120 will deff come.
Yup. It will happen, when it happens. Right now my deadlift and then obviously contest prep are more important
26.04.
Only sauna today.
I skipped my leg day (lol, typical gym bro!!! Not hardcore! #dedication) in favor of an additional recovery day. I am going to hit events tomorrow. I originally planned to meet up with the strongman group but it seems like my ex is going to show up and I am not going to risk seeing her. Not worth the trouble. So I am going to train in the yard.
That means only 3 days of lifting this week. That’s okay though. I squatted heavy last week. Until next contest I’ll probably just stick to rather light front squats.
You are such a bro man. What events are you training tomorrow.
27.04.
Ended up meeting the crew after all.
Today’s training took forever. I left home at 12.30 pm and returned at 10.20 pm. First we met up to do truck pull training. Herbert invited a local crossfit group. It was a really cool experience and a good group. But took over 2 hours. then our strongman group went on to train at Herbert’s place (our club’s hq).
Edit: It is a 1,5 hours drive both ways for me.
1 truck pull with a 12,3 (metric) ton truck
- one run without a rope - I was the only one out of the group to be able to do this without help (admittedly the real monsters didn’t begin to play here. I have to admit I was still kinda proud)
- one run with a rope (much much easier)
2 keg clean press
1 @ 90 kg - PR
2 @ 90 kg - PR
2 @ 90 kg - failed third clean
2 @ 90 kg - failed third press
3 car deadlift
played around a lot and it was miserable. I missed the weight twice that most guys could do very easily. Did a few reps with the car down one step down on the “ladder”. Did a few reps with a quad on the frame
Notes:
- the truck pulls were hard but cool
- on one of the sets of keg clean and presses the keg bumped from the rubber mat up and landed on my foot. There is a bit of bruising already. It hurt…
- the car deadlift was frustrating because the weight I missed is what I should expect at the contest, if not more. It felt like an immovable object.
- I need to improve my keg clean! Or all my cleans for that matter. I just have zero explosiveness from the hips
Video of today’s cool stuff:
Also this was the most cliche strongman training ever (after the truck pull). Herbert’s wife prepared a plate of coffee and we had an actual coffee break between sets. Next she brought out a tray of strawberry cake. When Hans (6’3" 150 kg/ 330 lbs) saw that he dropped the log and yelled “get out of my way” sprinting towards the cake. ![]()
Awesome session Mate. Good thing you went after all.
I read this picturing me Hans yelling in this cliche english with german accent, and had a great laugh.
Have a good day my friend.
Thanks mate, you too!
28.04.
1 cardio
15 min on the crosstrainer
15 min on the stationary bike
Some fascial repease work on my calves (right calf feels a bit jacked up from the truck pulling) and on my back.
Then relaxing in the sauna.
Good recovery day.
Thanks for that reminder!
I suddenly have a pretty bad tendonitis/ inflammation on the back of left forearms. It feels very hot to touch and typing with my left hand isn’t exactly pleasent.
I hope this won’t affect training too much. For work I will see. I’ll probably start taking Ibuprofen to help with the inflammation.
Ice it, 15 mins on 15 off.
1 Push press
5 x 3 @ 107,5 kg - Volume PR
2 Paused close grip board press (Hicks Press)
4 x 3 @ 105 kg
1 x 5 @ 105 kg - PR by default
3 lat pull down
4 x 10
4a tricep extensions
4 x 10
4b face pulls
4 x 15
Notes:
- we had a little party and I stayed up until 4 am (today is a national holiday). So I was slightly lethargic and not too eager to get to the gym today.
- Session went great. Nothing felt too heavy and went smooth.
Keep riding this wave to success mate.
02.05.
Soreness is crippling! Especially in my back muscles. Joint are all holding up fine but I am starting to feel beat up.
1 slight incline treadmill walking
15 min
2 stationary bike
15 min
3 fascial release
back and glutes
4 sauna
I am just very tired.
This was origianally planned to just fill a time gap between work and an appoiment near work. The appointment was cancelled without my knowledge but I am glad I did this session anyway because I feel heaps better afterwards.
Time for a deload my friend.
Remember the past.
Do a week of crisp work and no volume.
I have been dabbling with this exact idea in my head. On the other hand it is only 2,5-3 weeks of training left until competition.
My lower back isn’t recovering enough anymore. My muscles there feel super tight.
Talked it over with one of my strongman buddys who is a beast when it comes to deadlifts and who has helped me out with deadlifts for this prep.
We agreed that I should see how I feel tuesday. If deadlifts are an option I shall skip block pulls as they are over taxing my back and just pull from the floor thus reducing over all volume and load.
If I don’t feel like I can deadlift then obviously skip squats and deads altogether for the week.
He thinks my last deadlifts should be done the 21st, 9 days out. That leaves me with 3 sessions till comp
03.05.
Took an hour to stretch and do some fascial release work… Wow I should stop being so lazy and do more of that. Feels amazing.
