I am terrible at logging lately.

So I got sick last week which isn’t too surprising after the move and what not but obviously peak week is horrible timing for that. That said I was able to do half of my 3rd training (we said to just do the 2 main lifts to not risk getting sicker) and skipped the 4th session. Now I am already on the mend and almost all clear so it shouldn’t be a problem at all for the comp.

I don’t feel like I am competing Saturday. Work is dreadful rn, I don’t feel well balanced, moving stress and sickness… I am not on the zone. I will take the remaining two days to get my head right and then it’s going to be there on the day! I need to tap into it and I will have that press! Don’t care tremendously about the rest but I will have my moment!

Devil’s rock competition 2026

Today marked the early start into my 10th consecutive competition season in strongman. I might not be the most succesful or noteworthy athlete in the sport but I have been around for a while.

This was very underground competition but I loved the atmosphere and had a great day.

I went with my new training partner, a youngster 10 years younger than me who is just starting out and my new partner who did such a great job at supporting me throughout the day on their first strongman comp! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

:one:st event: The big jerk/ flintstone barbell press

1st attempt: 150 kg :white_check_mark:

2nd attempt: 160 kg :white_check_mark:

3rd attempt: 165 kg :cross_mark:

I struggled a bit with the setup but I am happy to tie my training PR once more and to bring it onto the competition floor even though I have hit this much prettier before.

Shared 1st place.

:two:nd event: Conan’s wheel

I think I did like 2 1/4 rounds and I don’t know how good that was and also don’t know the weight, haha. I expected to do a little better here but the bar slipped from my arms before I was done walking. Don’t know how to feel about it but really cool event!

:three:rd event: Axle deadlift for max. (Rising bar; 15 kg fixed jumps)

1st attempt: 210 kg :white_check_mark:

2nd attempt: 225 kg :white_check_mark:

3rd attempt : 240 kg :white_check_mark:

This actually ties my (embarassingly old) deadlift PR (done on a deadlift bar) and we didn’t even peak for this!! What is up?! Very happy with this!

:four:th event: atlas stones (choose a stone between 100, 120, 140, 160, 180 kg and go for reps in a minute)

- 1 rep @ 140 kg - PR!

Just went for it. Haven’t trained stones or even sandbags in half a year!! But I was super relaxed and it just felt right.

In general I was very calm and in a great positive headspace from where I could switch on and off very well.

At the end of the day I got 3rd place - great early dtart into the season!

I tried these and nearly tipped over. Lol.

Did you do them with an underhand grip? That is still a torture method to me!

Well them implies there was more than one. Lol. It was in fact underhand. This is something that I will have to put an extensive amount of work in if I want to execute them. Seriously, I almost tipped over with an 18 pound training bar.

I have been a bit less active on the forums lately because life just doesn’t leave much time these days. Sorry, I still appreciate you all just as much and hope to be more active in other logs again in the future.

Time for an update on this season’s plan: This is my 10th season in competitive strongman. Which in itself sounds kind of nuts and can be considered a rather long career, I think.

To top this anniversary off, I will actually be competing in the German u120 kg national championships this year. Which means I need to lose 3-4 kg, which shouldn’t be an issue.

The championships will be my main focus this year. I might compete before them once but will focus mainly on preparing for the champions. They take part 19th of July I think and I already know the events. I won’t be competitive of course but I still want to come in in the best shape possible.

Events will be extremely tough and 6 of them:

  1. Overhead medley: 90 kg bar, 100 kg bar, 110 kg axle, 120 kg log for reps
  2. Deadlift ladder: 200 kg bar, 225 kg bar, 250 kg bar, 300 kg trap bar for reps
  3. Farmer’s walk for max distance (turn at 12,5 m!) - 110 kg
  4. Husafell carry (turn at 12,5 m) - 140 kg
  5. WSM style squat - 220 kg for reps
  6. Shoulder medley: 100 kg keg, 110 kg keg, 120 kg keg, 130 kg sandbag, 150 kg sandbag

I will obviously not be able to complete all events but at least get on the board on all if I have a good 5 months preparation! The squat after those other events is diabolical. Love it in general but obviously I am not much of a squatter.

This will be very interesting!
