Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

The protest was a bit sobering though. It was the same cause and same alliance that organized it like a few weeks ago after the investigative research about the remigration plans of those Nazi scum came out. Not a surprise to ‘informed people/ political activists and so on’ but a real shocker to the general public.
Then we were 15.000 people in a town of less than 130.000 inhabitants. Today we were something between 2 and 3 k.

I worry that the endurance of the civil population so to say won’t hold out long enough. Those I associate with will fight wherever facism reeks it’s ugly head out of the dirt. Their attendence won’t stop but unlike some of the more arrogant leftists, I know that we need the rest of the broad spectrum of people, even if we don’t agree with them or don’t want to associate with them. Most of all we need the silent masses. The so called unpolitical. We need them to realize that such a state does not exist. Everything in life is political, if we want it to be or not. How we are born, live and die. You can chose to ignore it to an extent but not deny it.

Well thanks for coming to my poetry slam ted talk. We will now resume the usual program.

Trained early today and very fast! Because I wanted to get this session in before we leave for our vacation trip.

1 log lift
Complex: 1 clean - 2 press - 1 clean - 2 press

  • Top set @ 106 kg
  • 6 x 2 @ 106 kg (all from the ground) - first 4 on 1 min rest, then longer cause I suck.

2 btn split jerk
3 x 3 @ 117,5 kg

3a close grip axle floor press
3 x 6 @ 100 kg some paused

3b face pulls
3 x 15 @ s3 (restoration intensity)

4 btn lat pull down (neutral grip)
4 x 10 @ s13

Notes:

  • frustratingly the log was really really hard work
  • not used to early morning training. Body was complaining
  • was also in a rush so we could get going.

The dome of Erfurt by night is quite a spectacular sight.
The buildings are enormous and so is the plaza before it. Also all the hand crafted ornaments and details are insane especially with their consistency on such a monumental building complex.

Vacation training. Getting a bunch of steps in every day.

1 deadlift (commercial bar; like an oly bar)
Wave 1:
5 @ 175 kg
4 @ 185 kg
3 @ 195 kg
Wave 2:
5 @ 185 kg
4 @ 195 kg
3 @ 205 kg

Didn’t alter the weights and even though it wasn’t a deadlift bar, they felt really really easy.

2 hang snatch high pull
10 @ 80 kg
2 x 10 @ 75 kg

3 side holds (smooth bar part)
30 sec @ 50 kg
30 sec @ 60 kg

4 trap bar holds
2 x 4 plates per side for 15 sec (knurling but no chalk) - somewhere around 200-205 kg probably.

5 row machine (chest supported)
4 x 10

6 curls
2 x 15

Notes

  • not a bad session for being on the road.
  • deadlifts actually felt good

The battle ot the nations monument. Truly breath taking. See humans/ door for scale. The view up there is crazy. 500 steps of stairs to get up. At the end it was so narrow that I had to actually go sideways, haha.

Leipzig is so nice. I could really see myself living there someday!

This is a travel blog now, I guess.
Impressions from Desden.
Sadly the vacation is now coming to an end. Back niggle is still present. Depending on how it feels after the drive, I might take an extra rest day tomorrow. We will see.

How did the gym session go here?

It was okay! Bit unplanned but love the space and people there.

25.03.

Back didn’t improve much. I’m not seeing deadlifts happen tomorrow atm. Will probably take the rest of the week as deload/ rest and then go again.

1 front hold (back to wall)
4 x 15 sec. @ 20 kg

The single dumbest/ most boring strongman event in existance.

2 btn split jerk
3 x 3 @ 125 kg

3 close grip axle floor press
8 @ 107,5 kg - 8 rm
2 x 8 @ 90 kg

4 face pulls
3 x 15 @ s4

5 btn neutral lat pull down
3 x 10 @ s13,14,14

  • Skipped log (deload) and used the slot to test front hold. But everything felt terrible in general today. Will probably take the rest of the week as an unplanned deload even though I’m close to a potential comp.
  • quite the mood drop today after the high I had on vacation.

Events for my next potential competition are:

  1. 20m hand over hand pull
  2. keg clean and press 90 kg for reps; 60 seconds
  3. 130 kg stone over bar for reps; only spray tacky
  4. front hold; 21 kg
  5. Medley with farmer’s, keg, sand bag; undisclosed weights

The event is scheduled for the 9th of May.

I’m currently on the fence if I wanna do it. I don’t know if I’m able to do the stone with just spray tacky… need to try that out soon. Other than that the events are really not appealing to me. But the comp landscape is very scarce this year in my league… So I might do it.

Arm over arm is a cool event but hard to train for. Keg clean and press is featured way too often and it will be hard to beat my best mark there. The stone I don’t know if I can do it. The front hold is the dumbest event there is… incredibly boring for spectators. Medley sounds like a good fit for me.
