Leukemia

Oh shit… that must have really sucked

Hahaha… yeah it did very much so. 3 years I’m not getting back.

On the other (and much more important) hand I’m still breathing. Which is not only an incredible medical accomplishment but also something that can’t be said about a lot of my peers from the oncological pediatric ward. So I do consider myself very lucky in this misfortune.

20/21st century medical advances are crazy. Childhood leukemia used to be a death sentence and now it has a 90+%survival rate!

Take this for what it’s worth as I’m not one to frequent the docs often… and am not knowledgable about this stuff but a few years ago I had blood done and was quite Vit D deficient. They ended up prescribing some vit d at like 30,000 iu for a month and recommended taking 5-6,000 iu daily throughout the rest of winter.

90+ sounds a bit high, depending on the type of leukemia. Although I don’t know about statistics and what not. For what it’s worth: Chemo isn’t anything like it’s portrayed in TV though.

Cheers man. I’ve even heard things like 60.000 IU prescriptions that a friend of mine got. Did you take those 30.000 daily or weekly?

It was daily

Edit: but also I was showing symptoms of a deficiency. I don’t remember any of the numbers or if I even got to see them but I’m assuming I was way low.

Yeah… I’m guessing they skip all the sucky parts so ppl don’t get depressed watching…

From memory d3 can be toxic at doses of 20000+ per day, I think 10k will be fine, I’ve taken it before for long periods and never been over, stopped for a long time now and my most recent blood work showed I was still on range but on the lower end.

That’s a really low Vitamin D level, and that’s coming from someone who often scores low on Vitamin D tests. Even if I supplement with 2-3000 IU/day, I become deficient. So I typically take 5000 IU/day, and after doing that for awhile, my levels in November were still barely in the bottom end of the acceptable range. Thanks for reminding me to get that rechecked.

Anyway, you should really talk with your medical provider about a plan to boost your Vitamin D. Some doctors approach it differently. Either way, I’d imagine they’d order blood tests for you to monitor your supplementation.

One of my girlfriend’s college professors (phD, not medical doctor) got her all excited about vitamin D about 4 years ago. So she’s been taking 10,000 iu per day since then, for years. With that dose, when she was pregnant last year her vitamin D levels tested right in the middle of the healthy range. And she’s nowhere near as big as you.

I’ve also been taking 10,000 iu daily this past year to protect myself from covid. I haven’t had any issues, but I haven’t had my levels checked.

You guys have me thinking about upping the dose tbh, My coach does 13.000 during the winter and is about 10 kg heavier than me.

25.04.

1 oh squat
4 x 6 @ 72,5 kg

2 power jerk
5 x 3 @ 112,5 kg

3 front squats
Last warm up was 120 kg beltless (PR)

2 x 5 @ 122,5 kg
1 x 4 @ 122,5 kg

Today was the day. I failed the 5th rep because I shat myself a tiny bit on rep 4. Just a squirt but it threw me off enough to fail the rep.

4 bent over row (beltless)
3 x 12 @ 95 kg

5 hollow holds
2 x 50 sec.

Off program:
Assault bike intervals: 10/20 for 8 rounds.

Notes:

  • jerks weren’t as good as last week but can’t complain either.
  • front squats started out decent but turned to shit later… hehe… ha… this is why @cyrrex was right about those things all along

Everything looked more than decent to me. Makes me want to start doing front squats again in the near future.

em… :grimacing:

I can’t wait to stop doing them, haha! I hate them so much and they make me feel very weak. But I can go very very deep on them. That might win me some internet points. Anyone know where to cash them in?
Sorry, I’m so exhausted, my brain is kinda out of it, haha.

I messaged my coach and he in turn told me how he shat himself earlier the same day doing atlas stones (the tacky was a problem there). We had a conversation about the whole thing and that is now the funniest screenshot I have on my phone.

I also encourage you to watch a famous Ed Coan interview on the matter. But that’s probably enough now about this forever on my log

I’ve always had a soft spot for front squats. I dunno why.

Don’t feel weak for repping 120kg!
