Great job on the PR. That first rep looked super easy.
I discovered my mistake a few minutes later before the next, haha. But I had a feeling…
I am famously incapable of this, so maybe we have a win here after all, haha.
It is. Dug up your IG from your log and shot you a request
Tbh, I just do as my coach says here. But it is pretty important in strongman to be explosive while fatigued.
True. Although we would need to define ‘moving’ probably.
Go for it, guys! Confession time here: I have never read the books. Well I read the hobbit but didn’t make it through LOTR. I read it as a kid and stopped at some point and sadly never picked it up again.
Solid choices, haha. I can’t imagine I have done my memory a lot of favors with my drinking either. I never tried pipe smoking. I enjoys an occasional cigar but dislike any other form of smoking.
And that is the exciting question!
Thanks!
That’s a really odd thing to smoke at your age, buddy. Hipster vibes or nostalgia? Although I enjoyed cigars pretty early on as well. Never got hooked luckily. I enjoy maybe 5 or 6 a year.
My sleep schedule and all those factors don’t do my recovery abilities any favors either. But on that note I have to say that my back felt better recovered going into today than this session last week or the week before. So the volume reduction is working.
Thanks!
I just live life in reverse. I was a whiskey-drinker (and rum, and cognac, and every other spirit) before I was a beer-drinker. Pipe-smoker before my first cigar, cigarille, and cigarette.
Power endurance, got it, nice! Also CT on his last IG post has a video of kneeling muscle snatches. I had filmed some seated ones but did film only one set without warm-up and too much weight so they were shitty and didn’t post them lol
Yeah saw those and thought of you earlier.
I don’t know why I am assuming but I thought you didn’t drink? My memory is foggy.
I was a heavy drinker before joining here. Put a glass in my hand and I’m likely to have 7. Or more.
Did you stop because of your athletic pursuits or is “before joining here” just a timely coincidence?
A wee bit of both. I’ll “quote” a lass we had in the paper. She’d undergone quite a substantial bit of weight loss and she was asked if she ever had candy anymore to which she replied “I’ve had more candy before the age of thirty than a person should consume in their lifetime, so no, I believe I’ve met my quota”. I’m not as extreme with alcohol, I’ll say yes to a few things but not just a generic drink at the pub that I’ve already had several times before.
I don’t have a well-thought out matrix but if rarity of experience is essentially how I navigate it. If it’s a rum that I can have at any pub and conceivably afford to buy a bottle off myself then it’s a no. If someone made it themselves and want to share in their craft, it’s a yes. If it’s so expensive I’d never buy it and someone is offering me a taste, I’ll try it. But preferably, I’d forego having a glass of my own.
1 oh squats
3 x 5 @ 65 kg
These felt extra tight and clean today.
2 log press (clean once)
1 x 2 @ 101 kg
4 x 3 @ 101 kg - up your’s inanimate object!
1 x 4 @ 101 kg - spur in the moment decision to go for a fourth
Programmed was a 5 x 3. Needed to make up for the first.
3 power clean
5 x 3 @ 70 kg
4 btn press
4 x 9 @ 52,5 kg
5 wide grip rows
3 x 15 @ 77,5 kg
Notes:
- well it started out bad but then turned out better than I thought. Multiple triples with 101 kg is actually pretty good. All in all I can’t tell where my overhead is at. Triceps seems stronger nowadays.
- pretty shot now. Hard week of training
09.01.
45 min walk. Erectors like steel beams. These walks are essential for lower back recovery capabilities.
10.01.
2 hour hike which inspired my not so funny nerd humor again. Erectors nice and loose again. Probably already 85% recovered.
The amount I sweat in this weather is mind boggling. Both the tshirt as well as the sweatshirt above it were absolutely soaked. It’s like whenever I start a physical acitvity or start to strain in the slightest bit (I am talking walking up hill), my body goes into absolute overdrive! Sweat, heat production and all like I need to get ready to exert myself to the maximum. The annoying part is now I am drenched in sweat and my body starts to cool down again after a few minutes. The clothing choices therefore still have to be appropriate for cold weather. Very annoying but it’s been like that for most of my life and there’s worse things. If I’m doing sightseeing or anything comparable, I have multiple tshirts on me to change at all times. My close friends know that, so it’s not that awkward anymore. Would be a lot worse if I smelled sweaty which I thankfully don’t.
So after all of that totally useful information about me, a few things on training:
My coach is very happy with my progress lately. We’re going to deload on deadlifts this week (intensity down) and then we go big!
Still lots going on I see. I have been keeping up with by your IG. How’s everything?
Deadlifts are going great. Log press is also pretty strong. I expect some more PRs very soon. Most other things are on the back burner for now. But for a training cycle outside with minimal equipment and during winter, I am very satisfied.
45 min walk = great for recovery
2 hour hike = not so much
Really didn’t feel it today. So I got through it fast and ticked off the boxes.
1 oh squat
3 x 5 @ 67,5 kg - PR
2 deadlift (deload)
2 x 5 @ 150 kg
3 vertical jumps
5 x 3
4 strict cdb
4 x 10 @ 29 kg
Heavy today
6 hollow holds
3 x 40 sec @ 2x5 kg
Notes:
- I fear I am experiencing the very first signs that I’m coming down with something. Max out on fresh brewed ginger tea and citrus it is.
I need to work on my presentation but this is one great free style lasagna. 1,6 kg beef screams gainz.
1 log press (clean once)
3 x 5 @ 93,5 kg
2 floating deadlifts (3 sec ecc)
3 x 5 @ 140 kg
3 floor press
3 x 12 @ 87,5 kg
4 bent over row
3 x 8 @ 115 kg
This might be my most hated exercise in the whole program (abs and single leg included). 8 reps is tolerable though. Form however not great.
5 lunges
1 x 8 per leg @ 65 kg
It has been raining for most of the day and the floor was really slippery. During that one set my rear foot kept sliding away, even when I did the lunges in place. So I decided this was way too dangerous and kept it at that
6 side bends
3 x 12 @ 30 kg
Notes:
- Log felt REALLY strong today. Much improved from last week.
- all in all good session.
The more times passes by, the more I dislike bent rows. Can’t feel my back like I want, always something to think about (hammies, lower back, arms, grip) which can distract you from mind-muscle connection or leave you with a feeling of fucking it up
Yeah plus I am not strong enough to lean forward properly. I still feel it in my lats but this is too heavy for proper form. I am sure my coach is still seeing a benefit in me doing then this way, otherwise they would have been switched out. I will ask him about it this week.
From what I recall super strong dude are saying, it has nice carryover to deadlift
That’s what I’m hoping for, haha.
