Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Not with a band so far but I sometimes do them as a warm up.

Those are always a great option. I rotate them in and out as my warm up before lifting

Try it, use a light band. Imho it’s superior to scapular push-ups. It’s not about the resistance, for some reason the band helps with recruitment in the right places. I think because it’s because having something to push the back into

Do you do them with extended arms or in a plank position?

Extended!

Ever tried it on your forearms? I like both but somehow I preferred the plank position.

These days my right wrist/ hand is so messed up that simple push ups are a problem anyway…

Have not, will try. How are you rehabbing your wrist?

Not at all tbh. It’s been problematic since the summer now! It got better but then stalled. If I wear wrist wraps, lifting is okay. But I need to do something before I resume to play tennis.

Any ideas?

If you could describe the pain a bit more I’d maybe have more to say. I’ve had bones in my wrist come out of alignment and needed a person that knew what they were doing to adjust it.

If that’s not the case, I’m a big believer in that strength and use solve a lot of joint issues. I’ve been doing wrist rocks and wrist push-ups against a wall and they feel a lot better.

And I actually warm up my wrists before pressing, handstands and rock climbing. I’ve been told this is a good video

But I just follow what I remember from this (first half)

Oh yeah, rice buckets are cool too

I could definitely do some of those, thanks.

As for what’s wrong with my hand? I’m not sure. It’s not entirely impossible that a small part might be broken (just going off the experience of my best friend who broke a part of his hand pretty much at the same time) but it’s much more likely that it’s something tendon related.

1 oh squats
3 x 5 @ 60 kg - PR

2 deadlifts
3 x 5 @ 185 kg - PR!

3 box jumps
5 x 3

4 one db press (belted up today to save some energy)
4 x 8 @ 29 kg

5 shrugs
3 x 15 @ 110 kg

6 hollow holds
3 x 35 sec @ 2x5 kg

Notes:

  • deadlifts were hard but an honest PR. Not sure there was ever a time where I could have pulled this off. Maybe not even last peak with 8-10 kg more bodyweight…
  • low energy (well like most days anyways) but still great session!
  • tomorrow is a really big session. So I’ll eat pizza for dinner, no alcohol and nutella toast for breakfast. Pretty sure that’s how you prepare for something like that.

Nice PRs! Looked easy! Like OVH RPE 6 lol and deads 8…

Probably pretty accurate with the RPEs. OH squats were easy and deadlifts… well they felt hard but that’s mainly because they are deadlifts, not because I was at my limit, haha.

Nice deadlifting mate. Putting me to shame.

Thanks.

I am sure you’re tired of people playing the age card but dude, we all are hoping to be as strong as you are a little way down the road, while being a successful worker and family man. I’m definitely not putting you to shame mate

1 power jerk
1 @ 110 kg
1 @ 120 kg
1 @ 127,5 kg
4 x 0 @ 135 kg

2 floating deadlifts (3 sec. Ecc.)
3 x 5 @ 140 kg

3 bench press
3 x 10 @ 95 kg

4 bent over row - I never log those for rows, but technically a PR.
3 x 10 @ 110 kg

5 lunges
3 x 8 @ 60 kg - 90 sec rest.

6 side bends
4 x 10 @ 30 kg

7 did cardio right after

Notes:

  • not even close to taking a shot at 140 kg. I was really confused why I was attempting that today. I haven’t been handling any heavy weights overhead lately so I didn’t feel peaked exactly. But to not get my old best at 135 kg was devastating. I came close a few times but didn’t get my head through.
  • felt a little better after a chat with the coach, who helped put things into perspective. He explained he wanted to see where I am at and it didn’t matter that I failed. It’s just more data we can use for the build up. Heavy jerks haven’t been a focus lately, so no surprises that I struggle with them atm. Still I would have been okay with a fail at 140 but not 135.

Oh sorry, I meant that as a sincere compliment. Poor choice of words, sorry.
You’re an inspiration to me and others here.

All good mate I understood you. It is a thing I have with myself. When I started getting stronger for powerlifting I wanted to get to a point where I considered myself strong. Not strong for my age or strong compared to other people who don’t lift but just strong. Anytime someone says I am strong… for an older guy. It just motivates me to get stronger. I don’t see it as an insult it is just more fuel for the fire.
