Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

I’ve never heard of these before, are they common?

I think they’ve gained popularity in recent years.
They are a lot more feasible for home use than a traditional sauna (one reason for that is the lower cost and you only need w regular power outlet to plug them in).
They usually reach a dry heat of 60°C and they are supposed to help with muscle soreness because of the infrared heat something something. I don’t know if that is true or not but I love saunas in general and I swear by the effect of all sorts of saunas on recovery. In my personal case.
Also my parents have one of those infrared chambers at home, which is why I get to use it so frequently. It was a present from my grandfather to my mother.

Definitely going into this with a good amount of soreness.

1 box squat (briefs + sleeves)
3 x 5 @ 160 kg

2 box jumps (went higher this time)
5 x 3

3 step ups
4 x 6 per leg, alternating @ 30 kg

4 strict press
4 x 8 @ 55 kg

5 hip thrusts
4 x 8 @ 100 kg

6 lat pull down
4 x 12
Notes:

  • Instructions were to keep the briefs on and squat slightly below parallel. I asked if I should aim for the same stuff I did before, so the traditional box squat keypoints. Coach said to bring my stance in slightly and do more of a traditional squat to a box instead. I tried around a bit during warm ups and ran into a problem: I couldn’t squat below parallel with the briefs. I messaged him and askwd if I should remove the briefs or squat higher. He said squat as low as possible and don’t worry about the parallel thing.
So I still adjusted the box down by which felt like a lot and went to work. I kept some of the footage before my work sets in the video for Paul to review.
  • definitely still figuring out the squat thing. Went slightly wider stance on set 2 which made more sense for the briefs but then again folded me over a bunch. Then for set 3 I went with a hybrid between both which I think was the best. I guess I’ll wait for the big round of feedback at the end of the week and then we’ll see. Mid back had to work really hard today.
  • after 3 of 4 days of the first week, I gotta say I can’t remember the last time I worked out so hard. I love it.
  • sadly I strained my left oblique on one of the squat warm ups. But we’ll see in the coming days if it is of any concern.

Ah shit man, does that mean you’ll have to eat more food?

I hope so, haha! My appetite is huge man.

Mine too, but only for the bad stuff.

I can eat unlimited pizza and doughnuts but my salad stomach seems pretty tiny.

Funny, I’m the opposite

@dagill2 @anna_5588 the reason for both of you + me is at least as psychological as it is physical.
My bet is, that the psychological part is much more dominant here.

I was just going to say “you’re both full of shit”, but you were more eloquent.

1 paused push jerk (2 sec pause at bottom of dip)
3 x 5 @ 90 kg

2 romanian deadlifts
3 x 8 @ 110 kg

3 farmer’s walk
5 x 9m @ 95 kg p.h.

4 wide grip shrugs (middle finger on rings of power bar)
3 x 15 @ 90 kg

5 sandbag to shoulder (alternating shoulders)
1 x 2 @ 100 kg - realized the sandbag has a hole and I didn’t have ductape. So let it be.

6 hanging leg raises (knees to chest)
4 x 8

Notes:

  • it was a good first week. Challenging but fun. Never trained with such a high frequency and. I’m all kinds of sore but joints, baack and hips are in good shape. Only thing bothering me is the left hammy. But not to too much concern as of now.
  • will probably chill a bit in the pool at work after my shift tonight.
  • tomorrow is the first match of the season for my tennis team. Let’s hope I only have to play a double, haha. Well strongman is priority number one :person_shrugging:

I recall Licis recommending the pause push press/jerk with whatever implement for technique gains. When i dabble in strongman that’ll be half the warm up reps

Yep that movement seems worth it’s time. I think the highest I’ve done was 120 kg and that felt more powerful than without the pause somehow.

I strongly approve of working out topless, facing a mirror. If you can’t admire yourself while working out, why even work out?

Now I only need to get into a shape that’s admirable! But I wasn’t making myself sick, sooo I guess I’m in the clear, haha.

Yeah I think it’s in the praticing of bar path like a good dip and drive be up and down so like with log I’ve pressed it out in front of me because my leg drive isn’t fully vertical. Also stability if one feels like there’s energy loss/inefficiency there.
