Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

There is no cheating in strongman. Basically everything the ref didn’t specifically outlaw beforehand goes

Where the sumo at though?

There are some generally outlawed things: Sumo and resting the log on your head come to mind (both have been legal btw. if you look back far enough). Still at our competitions Heinz will always specify that there is no sumo deadlifting allowed. He will even say that we aren’t allowed to use a deadlift suit even though that’s forbidden by the general rules of the federation (and I estimate between 0 and 5 people total even own one). So I guess the refs are used to this game already, haha.

Funny anecdote: Heinz allowed one guy a deadlift suit for a car deadlift once. He allegedly said something along the lines of: “Go ahead, you’re such a shit deadlfter, it won’t make a difference either way”

Get some contact adhesive and stick 400 grit sandpaper to the timber. You won’t slip.

I don’t know much about this but will do as u say. Will make a full centre section of sandpaper

It almost guarantees no slippage. Very cheat, though.

Old school way is to spray the contact on your soles to make them sticky. Because there isn’t a corresponding layer of contact on the floor you don’t actually stick to it, you just get better grip. Messy though.

Four hundred grit is really fine though, so it isn’t super, super grippy. Skateboard grip tape is something like 120 grit I think, just to give you an idea.

@Koestrizer isn’t the super wide stance conventional you see a lot in competitions a way around the no sumo? Or it is simply because the dudes are so damn big?

Perfect. I’m combining all the cheat factors during this corona virus training block to see if I can pull 270kg. Probs works out to like 250kg on a comp set up lol

You can also get anti slip paint which has sand in it. Should work and may be cheaper and easier than lots of paper.

Absolutely. Unless you have access to paper for a drum sander it would be a long process.

I was also thinking you can buy rolls of skateboard grip tape but again this is expensive

I think it’s mainly because the guys using that technique are so big + the fact that straps are allowed. No way you would be able to deadlift like Terry Pritchet if straps weren’t allowed.

Affirmative.
I am 25 years old, weigh about 125 kg and am 1,90m tall. I started competing in my first beginner show in 2016. In 2019 I started competing in Germany’s second national league (of three). Up until now I have done 3 beginner/ third league cups, 4 2nd league cups and 1 team comp outside of any league.
My biggest weakness is static strength, especially lower body. Statically best lift is overhead. Other than that I am decent at moving events.
Hips and back are kind of weak points of mine.

Other than that I have some hormone issues (likely due to an otherwise successful chemotherapy). I am on so far not nearly sufficient trt, take thyroid hormones and a high dose of anti depressants.

Oh and I train in what used to be a cheese factory.

Strict: 90 kg (don’t really train that much)
Push press: 135 kg (hopefully three plates in 7 weeks)
Log: I think 116 kg, not too sure rn.
