You say that you are sick of people assuming that Marines are tough. So you beat up a former Marine, then come on T-Nation to talk about it? Would you have done that if it were not a Marine? So you beat up a former Marine who was an ordinary fighter and probably didn’t box or do BJJ or whateveer. Conclusion 1: he must not have been tough, but you beat his ass anyway.

Maybe the OP’s opponent was too busy worrying about deployment to train BJJ and Muay Thai and all that crap that is mostly useless in war. Maybe, you know, he was too busy training to shoot people and have people shoot at him to think he needed a lot of hand-to-hand combat training. Or maybe he already came back from “over there” and was too busy putting his life back together to worry about such things. I’ve got a friend who was blown nearly to kingdom come by an IED. He never mentioned any BJJ training getting him through the time where he was upside-down in his flipped HUMVEE shooting at the enemy while they were trying to ambush him.
How about you, OP? Have you ever put your butt on the line for this country, or do you mostly just spend time bragging on teh interwebz about how tough you are?

honestly i felt the need to post this because my friend who i thought would back me before the incident occured told me not to mess with him because he was a marine so he was some kind of untouchable badass

20$ on marine>gangstachimp in an armed conflict. Have you ever considered he might not have any practical use for fistfighting skills on deplowment, given that our servicemen carry weapons?
