what i was saying proffesor x is outside of their military is that alot of the guys act harder than what they are when they shouldnt and that their mindset is they are in the military so that makes them automatically bad asses

No offense, but unless you have been in the military, you don’t have a clue about what it takes.

It is a completely different world that most in the civilian world wouldn’t make it past 2 weeks if they found themselves in it. The rules, the respect and the hierarchy create an environment where you are ready at all times. There were many nights where I didn’t know if they were going to call us in at 5am or earlier for drills. That meant my meals for the day had to be prepared long in advance just in case.

While everyone will have a different experience, one thing holds true, the military is not for blatant pussies.

That doesn’t mean they are all bad asses. However, it does mean that some of the most reliable, trustworthy, and effective people I have ever met were in uniform. People on the outside can’t hold a candle to them.

I’d agree. My brother in law was a Naval academy grad and has done very well for himself. He’s smart and organized. He might not be a badass now, but his military training has done him well.

So far, my 14 year old son is interested in the Naval academy. I’d be more proud of him getting in there compared to Harvard.

All the more reason for a Marine to avoid a fight on the job. The penalty is stiffer if you hurt someone in a fight outside of simple self defense if you are documented as being well trained. They would consider your body a deadly weapon in itself.

Con-Air much?
to me that movie was a little silly. I don’t see how it wasn’t justifiable self defense.

This may be true, but I know and have known a lot of military personnel. It’s about 50/50 as to how impressive of humans they are.

I mean no disrespect to the military, but a lot of people go in to get their shit together, not because they have it together. Sure all of what you say about rules and such are true, because you HAVE to do it. This isn’t self discipline, it is forced discipline.

My nephew is currently stationed in Fallujah, and yes he is a pussy. Hopefully, the service will change this, but so far it has not.

Again, I’m not trying to disrespect the military, I’m thankful for them protecting my freedoms.

While I’m sure you have met many honorable men, many of the former servicemen I know, came away no better from the experience. They thought they were better, but to me, they seemed unable to think on their own.

I’m sure I’ll get flamed for this, but your statements just seemed over the top.

I’m sorry, but how do you think people are TAUGHT discipline? Even a parent sets the rules and enforces penalties for them to TEACH discipline…yet you think all discipline is self enforced and self taught?

The majority of military are coming in around the age of 18. You think most 18 year olds are innately filled with a high level of discipline?

Does your analysis include officers who come in who don’t need to be taught much of anything?

Good for your cousin. Why does that one example have anything to do with most military?

Then why are you still typing?

This is hilarious. My statement was over the top because I pointed out the positives?

What the fuck do you call your post for not doing so?

How is it you can never reply without twisting what others say to suit your reply?

Can you possibly be this frustrating to talk to in real life?

I twisted your reply? You wrote that mine was over the top. I responded directly to what you wrote. Maybe you just don’t like someone calling bullshit what it is?

Why didn’t you answer even one question I asked you?

I’m glad you took the time to make sure everyone knew how bad ass you were by running to the internet and telling us about it

I mean this with no disrespect to our military servicemen protecting our country, but i hate it when people automatically assume that cuz a guy is in the navy, army, etc… he could whoop anyone’s ass.

Im venting cuz i recently fucked up a former marine and before the incident my boy was like “yo, dont fuck with him, he was a marine”. now unless he has a gun or a knife i could give a fuck.i box and do bjj and feel that hand to hand they are not the badasses everyone thinks they are. no disrespect. just venting

well i dont know about any internet tough guy stuff or maybe some of you guys never won a fight before…but thats what happened. it had been building up at work until we both crossed some lines we knew we shouldnt(personal info)
have any of you guys even been in a fight before?
Oh wow! I can’t believe I missed this entire thread.

Yeah, I remember my very first fight, too. You should be so very proud of yourself…perhaps the reason you came on here to gloat about it. Hope you do so well on your second fight. A true victor needs no reason to brag…he always acts as if he belongs on top. But then again, none of us here have ever gotten into a fight…you’re the very first. Bravo asshat!

You are a such complete moron to post this crap. I bet you were both drunk at the local hole-in-the-wall bar and you just happened to land on top of him when you both knocked each other out. Or perhaps you used the bat. That’s assuming this is even a true story.

Someone crossed some lines, huh? What happened…catch him with your girl or something?

I can’t believe some of the assenine stuff that has been posted in this thread. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. It saddens me to think that this is the stuff that I and all my brothers and sisters of the military (past, present, and future) sacrifice our time, our personal freedoms, time away from our families, and sometimes…even our lives to defend.

Sure, maybe it’s 50/50 like someone on here said about how some of those serving are idiots…more likely they’re the ones here for the wrong reasons. Sure, some were forced into it and those are the ones that will be weeded out one way or another. But many are here to defend our country…or everyone’s freedoms since someone on here stated that our country’s never really needed “defending”. Including the right to post some really retarded crap on the internet.

And whoever it was that said most come in simply because they’re too stupid to go to college…you, sir, are a fucking idiot (I bet you voted for Kerry as well). I’ve seen many kids come in and get a degree…or several. Your logic is the same as saying everyone that goes to college does so because they can’t hack it in the military or that they only go there to finally escape mommy and daddy and finally get to party all the time.

Sure we’ve got some that shouldn’t be here, but then again, how many college kids end up dropping out as well? This doesn’t mean that the military or college are what’s wrong. Hell, I had the opporunity to go to the academy but chose not to. Why? Because my father went enlisted and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Plus, when I finally earned, yes earned, my commissioning after years of being an enlisted I was able to say “I know where you’re coming from” to all my people who came to me with a question, problem, or complaint.

Sorry…guess I’m venting as well. It’s been three straight weeks of 18 hour days without a single day off. But I guess some of the anti-America, anti-military, selfish asses on here wouldn’t know anything about that. Why don’t you take a moment to think about the young man or woman out there in the desert who has no idea that today may be his or her last so that you can sit in the comfort of your air conditioned home eating your breakfast in front of the TV today.
