Pec Tear

Dlung, sorry to hear about the tear…looks painful.
How much weight we’re you using ?
Hay Bro, thanks! It felt like a shirt ripping inside of me. I knew better than to push through it. It was 350 lb. something I hit for 5 solid ones the last 2 weeks. Hell I was thinking I had a shot at 6; she blew at 2.
56x11 seriously ? The guy has a catastrophic injury and is looking for information, not a pissing match.

Thanks for having my back on that. You’ve seen my posts, I don’t treat anyone that way nor do I expect to be treated that way. I typically don’t let myself get baited in but this time I err during a point of weakness.

That’s a long post for “NO, NO and NO”

The world is full of your type, few of mine. Keep playing the so so. Here’s the difference between you and I, given a chance to do it all over, God damn right I would. All you have to offer is “Don’t do that”…weak, very weak.

For your record; At the end of April I ran a 10k at a bit over 50 min. and squatted 600 on the same day. Get back to me when you get close.

I could do a 10K in my car… =D

Hope you recover quick from the injury/ surgery brother. Just keep your head up. You will be back.
That’s funny!

You know where I am coming from and it means a lot to me when I hear words of encouragement from guys like you. We live on the edge; it’s what separates us from the rest of the pack. I’ll keep you posted; thanks again Bro!

Speaking of baiting…here’s what you said in an earlier post:
doublelung84 wrote:

I agree hell if I never touched a weight I’m sure I would never had a groin or pec tear; nothing ventured, nothing gained. Tell me if I’m off base here, and if I am, I apologize now. This is a simple yes or no question. Have you at anytime in your life held 400 lbs in your hands on the bench, dead lifted and squatted over 600 lbs?
And when I gave honest answers to those questions, you proceeded to shoot me down.

That’s when I said, okay - game on.

Now here you are, collecting little support quotes to validate yourself.

I amend my earlier comments about you. In addition to everything else I said - which I will not retract - I have now tagged you as amusing.

One word; XBOW!
I don’t even know If could condone an injured man using a xbow! j/k! Good luck!
Ah, just want to be able to load it for my son, it’s his first year. I’m happy to see him in the woods with a crossbow as opposed to in the living room with an ipod!

BTW, tried to pull the bow back today for the first time, didn’t have an issue. Going to see how they fly tomorrow.
Good for you getting your son outside and hunting. The mobile device and social media epidemic is a whole thread to itself.

-UPDATE-

I had my second MRI today and my consultation with the surgeon. The MRI showed a complete tear at the point where the muscle fuses into the tendon. According to the doctor, that’s not the best place for a repair, tendon to tendon or tendon to bone is easier to secure. Had it been completely in the muscle, there would have been nothing he could do.

I was given an 80% chance that he can get the sutures to hold if there is a small amount of tendon left. I scheduled the surgery for Monday. He did say there will be no guessing if it was fixed or not; he gets it to take or he doesn’t and I will know once I am awake. Praying for a good outcome!

Will keep a good thought for you. Let us know how it goes.

I like 56x11’s input on this thred for many reasons.

 1. Complete ass to OP who just had a freak injury
 2. Flames OP for not heeding his advice
 3. Challenges OP (stranger) to bet over interwebz
 4. Requires bet to take place in SoCal
 5. Asks for year to prepare

Surgery

I had my surgery with Dr. Wayne T. Luchetti, MD at Coordinated Health in Bethlehem PA. Dr. Luchetti is the sports doctor for Lehigh University. He said it was one if the best repairs he has done to date and expects a full recovery.

I requested some pictures since I was documenting the injury in hopes of providing others with some information and he was happy to accommodate me. The surgery lasted longer then expected; almost 2 hours. The first pic shows the separation; the second is all the suturing to pull the pec back into place and the third is how the pec looks after secured.

I was sent home the same day with my arm in a sling and was told it would be in the sling for 5 weeks. I rested, iced the area and took my meds as directed. Once the nerve block wore off the pain set in. It was manageable but hurt more then when I originally tore it. The swelling was more than I expected. I go back for my first checkup in 7 days.

Awesome pics! He did an amazing job of re-approximating the ends of the tear. Clearly you were in the hands of a pro.

Glad to hear it went well, and good luck during recovery/rehab.

Hay thanks! I will continue posts on my progression. I hope my story ends well and others can draw strength from it in their darkest hour.

Any prognosis on your lifting future? Or are you not even focused on worrying about this right now…

ONE DAY AFTER SURGERY

Yesterday afternoon was a little rough. I backed my meds down and could feel the surgically repaired area. The pain I was having seemed to be from the swelling in my shoulder coupled with my odd positioning of my arm in the sling.

I loaded up on the maximum anti-inflammatory, pain killer and sleep-aids as prescribed 30 min before bed and got a solid 6 hours of sleep. I am holding off on the pain killers until tonight but continuing the anti-inflammatory as prescribed for a week. I think some pain is good because it keeps me mindful of the injured area. I can not stress how important icing the area is!

Here’s what the doctor told me," I would not tell a health 47 y.o. guy without a ruptured pectoral tendon that he would be able to bench that weight so I can’t say you ever will again. I’m also not going to say you won’t"

Truthfully, if the heavy weight is over, I will live on. I may have to modify my exercises and angle of attack but there is no reason to give up. For now, I just have different goals.

Glad the surgery was a success. Here’s to a successful recovery.

Glad you got mended. Any mention yet of physical therapy/recuperation?

As for the drugs - you seem like a strong-enough willed person that weaning yourself from pain killers in the future wouldn’t be a concern. Why back off on them now, so early after your surgery?

How long are you off work?

Speedy recovery to you!

Like I said, pain can be your friend. I just don’t need him showing up in the middle of the night so I’m popin’ before bed.

I took off the day of and the after the surgery. I have a desk job so it’s nothing physical, plus watching all that daytime TV would have kill me! I can’t wait for rehab,at least I will be doing something.
