Patch2's Adventures

I thought this was kinda cool:

Cool shoes! I have crap feet, so even sneakers hurt them, but lucky for my wallet.

That’s just fucked up that someone stole your stuff!!! Seriously bands and balls can’t cost that much, hopefully the band snaps their eye out or something

ohh lala! lovin the stilletos darlin.

and BAMF is a great goal. Do it.

did you feel the squat in your hip flexors?

i used to get upset that i very rarely got doms - but now i’m realizing that mine manifests as stiffness under the roller. needing to spend more time on glutes / hammies now with my back squats, whereas i needed to spend that time on my hip flexors / quads when i was front squatting.

glad to hear you yoga teacher is back!

I’m sorry you got your stuff stolen. I had a metal water bottle go missing at my gym. I don’t know if it was taken but it certainly didn’t turn up in lost property so I reckon someone had it. Good job I had a spare at home.

For the record, I can’t sit in a squat either, because I actually can’t squat down in a functional manner. I have to round forward and roll onto the insides of my feet. That’s really uncomfortable. So don’t feel bad.

Likin the Heels!

youre pch2!!!

So, sad :frowning:

Yeah, I think I’ll invest in some new ones that can help with the pull up goal.

Thanks! Will do.

Friday PM

Hiking! I live about 10 mile from a State park so last night decided to drag my brother on a hike with me. I hadn’t been out there since I was a kid, and did not realize it was 90% sand dunes. So, yeah a 5 mile hike over sand dunes. I don’t understand how anyone does hill sprints, I ended up doing hill walk a bit, stop to huff and puff, walk a bit cycles. I think I’m going to attempt 5 miles of hiking a week. This loop took up about 4 hours.

Things I learned:

Hiking makes your whole body sore.
I need to invest in sweat proof bug spray.
My little brother is a great “shut the fuck up and do it” voice.

Pictures!

I actually feel it in my ankles and calves the most. I think my hips are pretty flexible. I’ve found that I can get in sumo squat stance and pick up the bar off the ground with my back straight. When I try to bring my feet parallel and closer is when I have issues.

I don’t revel in the DOMS like a lot of folks. Once I feel them in new movements I don’t need them again.

Me too!

Is it due to the foot issues you have?

Thanks! I’ve got a closet full I couldn’t wear last year due to the ankle. I can’t wait to whip them out.

Not any more.

beautiful! i hear sand is much harder to walk / run on than other terrain.

i have the same issue with my squat - either need significant heel raise or i need to go sumo.

with the squat stretch - it is okay if your back rounds. it is also okay if you come up on your toes. i think the idea is just to get down there however feels most comfortable and then gently move things around so more positions feel comfortable (e.g., heels up, heels down, different stance widths, different back positions etc).

are your calves / achilles tendons tight from high heels, perhaps?? i think mobilityWOD episode 3 is about calves…

The sand was ridiculous. By the end every baby muscle in me feet were killing. I wore the pace gloves for the parts with plants then went barefoot for the 2 miles on the water. Today all of me hurts. My abs are even sore. The pictures didn’t come out well since there’s no perspective, but some of the dunes are about 45 degree or higher angles.

I really want to get my heels down, so I did heels down, my back did whatever it wanted and I hugged the power rack.

I haven’t been doing the heels for any actual amount of time lately. My ankle is just getting to the point where it can take it. Also, the floor at school is not made for heels. The handful of times I wore them this year it was a slip and slide. It’s a building 95% occupied by men, they don’t think of little things like traction and grates for stairs.

Patch, I have issues with everything, mostly down to lever lengths. Essentially it’s because my hips are wide, so my femurs hang in at a pronounced angle, and then my lower legs jut out from my knees at an angle and my ankles therefore get a lot of stress. My right foot is rotated outward. I also have a very long back. My femurs are also quite long but my shins are short so I cannot get my feet under my bum when I squat down. I am simply not built to squat. Add on top of that the fact I’ve spent over 20 years at a desk and have short hip flexors and a slightly kyphotic T-spine and you have a disaster in the making.

The hammocks were great to sleep in. I have to get me one. They’re really light, and when it rained the tents were much wetter. [/quote]

ohgodohgod! I totally want one of these for backpacking. Couple that with the fact that you are a martial artist and have the same goals I do and I just became your biggest fan. I’m checking back to PW just to see your progress. :*

those dunes look brutal. I’m sure you had to take 2 steps for every one step one a regular hill due to slipping.
cudos on getting it done. I’d sat you have a BAMF state of mind.

you live in a beautiful area!
