what is a yurt?

It’s like a tepee. Here’s a pic of the Yurt we’ll be in. Yurt is just funner to say then tent like structure.

We’re hiking into it and then spending Saturday day in/ around it/ then hiking out.

I thought that yurts were a Northern CA / Oregon thing. This log is very informational indeed. Everything from making pies to yurts.

It’s kinda cold for camping though isn’t it? I hope that’s a heated yurt. My wife and I froze out in Yosemite four Christmas’s ago (pre kiddy). It was fun but definitely on the “cool” side…

Yeah, I have diverse interests, my brother thinks I’m a hipster. I think it’s all part of being a bad ass. Though, I may be wearing leg warmers right now. Shouldn’t a badass be able to fix her car then bake a pie from scratch? I didn’t actually manage to fix the car; I didn’t have the right tool!

The Yurt isn’t heated, but there is a fireplace and wood is provided. I have been assured by my survivor man that I will not be cold. I kinda want it to snow, it’ll be so pretty.

Crazy woman! I wouldn’t want to be sleeping in a heating-less tent in the snow, even with a fire!

Laughed at your running picture - that just about sums me up.

leg warmers are secks-say, especially if worn in Yurts.

Happy New Year, Patches!

tear it up in 2012!

yurts
legwarmers
baking

if you wear chunky glasses your brother might be on to something

Happy New Year, Patches

Hahaha Peaches I lufff uuuuu… ur legwarmers yurts pies and errrrything!

heh the yurt looks very cool. happy new year!

Happy New Years! Thanks for the wishes all.

I had a blast over the weekend.

The weekend was great; not at all what I was expecting, but it was really fun. I’m going to post a few shots.

The hike in was nothing. A bit over a tenth of a mile. I actually got there first and did the hike in my everyday boots. Not the best idea since it was muddy as fuck, but still not a hike per say. And then I did a stupid. The ranger had given us the code for the lock box, and said the key was inside. I looked everywhere and could not find a lock box. All I saw was a lock on the door, but no lock box. So, I started to freak out a bit, the ranger station was closed. So I thought maybe there was a box a the station, but that was a ‘scenic drive’ aka mud road in. My car can’t really do mud roads. Which left me in the rain, freaking out.

I started making freaked out calls to the boy and he kept asking me to make sure it wasn’t there. You can only circle a tiny area so many times! Finally he told me to drive out find a diner and wait for him. I actually told him to stop and get a bolt cutter, lol. When I freak out, the world begins to end. He shows up, we eat then hit the ranger station in his SUV. We get there and nothing, no lock box. This does not help my freaking out.

Now it’s dark (yipee for headlamps!) and so we mud in. A circle shows no lock box, but then the boy goes to the door. Picks up the lock and is like, uh, this is a lock box!

It was attached to the door the whole time!

After my stupid, everything went well. There was a wood stove that actually kept it really warm. Inside it was too hot to wear more than a base layer. Outside it ranged from forties to teens.

I love the spirit of adventure in here. Happy New Year!

I got to use my new pack, even though I didn’t really need it. We just did day hikes so I used the hippack. I love the number of pockets and hooks.

It’s and Osprey Ariel 65.

I got to shoot for the first time. It was just a pellet gun, but I still felt like a bad ass. I could only hit the target from 15 ft or closer, but handguns are hard. I was aiming for the middle. So, I’m precise but not accurate, lol.

My pictures aren’t showing up?

Not sure what’s going on with the pictures, but whatever.

The hikes were really pretty. It’s amazing how warm you stay with the correct gear. It was in the teens on Sunday and I was still sweaty. We hiked around lakes and wetlands, Michigan has some great views.

It was super warm though, I suggest you try it. I felt like Laura Ingalls!
