Patch2's Adventures

M: AM
Treadmill mosey then a lot of time with the foam roller. My neck’s been bothering me, I think I’m actually going to have to find a peeps here to get it to relax.

Then I did some general dicking around, after reading a few articles I still can’t figure out how to get my body to do anything on just one leg. I ended up doing some split squats instead. I don’t know, I’m feeling like my legs are getting massive. In tight’s they’re huge, I occasionally want to go up to people and be like, feel it, it’s not fat, I swear. I don’t do much leg stuff, I don’t really get it.

I also did a few laps of suitcase walks with a 35. I really like it for ab work. I like that genre in general. I think I need to do a bit more ab work just because I can occasionally feel my lower back needing my abs to be more stable. I tend to not do any ab work, both because I don’t like it and because I want a tiny little waist. I’ve read so much about ab work thickening waists that I’m not to keen on it. Though it is where I’m holding most of my fat right now. It might take a bit of playing with what my diet is made up of, and dealing with life stress in general too. I’m still reading up on it.

PM

A bit of stretching

A1)Inverted Row 10,10,5
A2)Incline Push up 10,5,5

I’m getting boobs to the bar on the invertered rows, and it makes me feel like such a boss. I was pretty much grinning like a mad man through the whole set and managed to catch one of the guys laughing at me. It was a cute moment, though, not weird. All giggles.

My fucking neck, so I thought a bit more shoulder stuff might help.
YTLW
Robertson’s stuff

Then split squats, in the morning I settled on a KB held goblet like.
BSS 15KB x5 x5each leg

Guys, in the middle of this, I look up and there’s one of my students, waiting to ask me about the homework. It was just ridiculous. I was like, uh, why don’t you just email me?

Then I did an ab thing, and it sucked. The one where you’re standing then walk your hands out then walk them back. It might be too much for the shoulder, but I can feel my abs now. I may just go through a bunch of ab things and have variety be the key to doing them.

Tues AM
Spin!

Boobs to the bar is fucking boss! Nice!! I find inverted rows stupid hard.

Interesting on the uni work…it is pretty tough. When I started doing mine it really highlighted the fact that my abducters were as weak as kittens.

But I started doing my stuff at the easiest level and then slowly progressing from there. For ex. with pistol squats I started in a chair, and then 5 risers, etc. - and like you said, I would start sitting and then raise myself up, pushing through the heel and making sure my knee wasn’t caving. Believe it or not, there is form to these things that needs to be minded despite the fact they look like incredibly easy (which they’re not!).

If I’d recommend something I’d do:

Step downs (low riser)
Pistols (high riser)
Single leg leg press < if you think about this, if you can leg press your weight with one leg, you’re on your way to a full pistol squat

Think about it as prehab!

Also, you know who does an assload of single leg work, Germanone over in the >35ers. I stole a bunch of stuff from him a while back.

AND! I came in here to tell you (before I started blabbering) that today in spin I tried to mimic what spin shoes might feel like, and you’re right, much more hammie work. I like it! Maybe I’ll buy some shoes after all…

goddammit i hate it when students approach me at the gym! i’ve got my best ‘i’ll fuck you up’ face on and all… but i’m really very approachable outside the gym, i swear!

i find unilateral work really hard, too. i think it is something that improves a lot from regular practice, though. i use a resistance band to help assist me a bit with pistols and one leg standing balance stuff. that way my stabilizers get a bit of work but it isn’t too much for them.

i’ll happily take some of your leg muscle if you aren’t wanting it :frowning:

i find inverted rows stupid hard, too. but then… if i think about it… i’m not close to upright rowing around 70% my bodyweight for reps…

oh. i got some of these. they stay in my ear when i’m oly lifting / jumping around. they are also waterproof so i can wash them so sweat doesn’t disintegrate the plastic.

I missed yoga this morning, I was just plain exhausted. So instead of a workout summary here’s the shiny shirt I wore yesterday. I love shiny!

ok now you have me addicted to getting these crazy pics! Under normal circumstances this would just seem silly to me.

You’re welcome

PEACHES! Lookin cute as hell there gorl.

Add me to the suckass at unilateral work. My balance is A FUCKING JOKE. Used to be Excellent… thyroid disease messed it up so bad and it seems to be permanent damage. OH WELLS WHATEV.

IMO Split Squats totally legit sub out for Bulgarians (If bulgarians make you topple over like they do to me)

Time to actually tackle pull ups though, which I still find stupid hard.

I’ll have to look some of those movements up and try them out. Over the weekend, I’ll probably just try a bunch in front of the computer rather than try to remember what I’m supposed to be doing at the gym.

I’ll check out his log, I’ve been reading a few more of the O35 logs. Old people, they seem to know their shit

Do it, it’s totally worth it!

I don’t know Lexi, you seem scary in general. I’ve seen you walk around hold a giant metal bar over your head.

Huh, how do you use the bands? Do you just hang on? Loop them around some part of you?

We can trade, I’ll take your pull ups you can have some of my leg mass.

Thanks!

Yoga has helped so much with my balance it’s ridiculous. My right ankle is still not the best for balance but occasionally I’m just grateful that I can stand on one leg and I’ve got a lot of my ROM back. For the longest time I didn’t think kneeling with my flat foot was ever going to be possible again!

I think I’m confusing names for stuffs, aren’t Bulgarians the same a split squats?

Hmm, thinking of adding the Robert YTWL stuff as a warm up, just with light weights. I find that I fall asleep on YTWL’s if I try to do them in earnest. But maybe as a warm up…

I really like it as a warm up. I use super light weights on them, like 5lbs, and think about the movement a lot. I find that they actually make my shoulders less achy. I tend to throw some dislocates between sets too and it just feels good.

any good yoga dvds you might recommend??

Hmmm, I don’t like them to be preachy, so there’s the old school Denise Austin. She guide you through stuff really well, and the outfits are awesome. I also like Tara Stiles, she’s got a good youtube channel too if you don’t want to buy a dvd.

Don’t you know, yoga is evil. The Vatican says yoga will lead you astray to the devil. Hmmm, maybe I should do MORE yoga then.

doing a run by lolcat image.

I’m going to try a yoga class.

There are alot of cute girls in them.

Nothing, I think it’ll be best if you go for just boots. I bet the natives would be happy.

I just keep on wearing my dresses, I just winter them up with leggings and if it works a shirt under and scarves. I’m very hobo in the winter. Long sweaters work too, and occasionally not so long sweaters. I likes my butt, if I want to wear tights as pants, I will!

Ha! That reminds me of one of my favorite stories from studying abroad. I’ll just say I now know that not ALL beaches in Australia are topless.

For the single leg stuff, I use slidies (valslides, to be exact—but furniture sliders work the same) to help. They give you the benefit of the unilateral work but allow a leg down to help balance.

I <3 the boobs to the bar story, by the way.

Yup, yoga is the path to finding yourself.
