Haha, oh it totally does. BJJ teaches you how to move with another person, without losing connection with them. It makes transitions between moves a lot smoother. It’s also a lot easier to tell the other person what you want when you have a common language for how two bodies interact that closely. I can ask him to get posture in guard and he’ll know what I want, rather than trying to convey that in much more words. Or I can just say half guard and he’ll know exactly what I want. And damn, sex in a slight variation off half guard is awesome. I haven’t had sex with a non-BJJ person since starting BJJ, so I don’t know how it’ll be if I can’t use BJJ words to convey what I want now, lol.

OK, so I googled those BJJ terms but it came up all men in various positions, and I couldn’t get the sex thing out of my head, so I had to leave, lol.

A common language would be cool. Like ordering from a Chinese menu…give some #3 and then a little #1 and then a lot of #6…more 6…more 6…keep going with the 6…

Sun: BJJ! Another long post to confuse you guys.

Like I posted above, I went in cranky, and not really wanting to deal with the other gender. The guys were all being so friendly, and I just wanted to be left alone. That’s the one thing about BJJ, you’re forced to interact with people. Cranky left quickly to be replaced by exhaustion.

Warm up, we ran laps, skipped, ran backwards, did a crisscross shuffle thing that I can manage one direction but end up stumbling through in the other direction. It’s weird how that works. Shrimp, reverse shrimp, stupid ab stuff, forward rolls, backwards rolls. Then we did partner drills based off last weeks foot sweep. We walked facing each other with grips trying to time the foot sweep to when they stepped.

My stupid white belt partner kept jumping out of the way when it was my turn though, ugh. The whole point is to get a nice cadence going, not to try to do fancy tricks. Cranky was still around though, so rather than try to explain it to him, I just delt with it.

Then class started. There’s a one stripe white belt that’s friends with one of my little brother’s friends. He’s got all his corners worn down, so he doesn’t do spastic white belt stuff, but still doesn’t know enough to have bad habits. I think I’m going put effort in to mold him into an awesome training buddy. He’s a little tall, so getting around his legs is annoying, but I think he’ll be the best of the bunch to drill basics with and to practice submissions on. So, I drilled the moves with him.

The instructor is not a detail guy, and I am a detail person, so I was a bit lost on the first move. I’ll have to remember the general idea of it and ask the guys in cleveland over break how exactly I’m supposed to do it. It was a pass where you’re standing over him and then you push his one leg to the side, kick your leg back and pass into knee on belly. I kept falling over with the kick back because I couldn’t figure out where to put my weight, sigh.

It made white belt think I was inept, and he kept trying to tell me what to do, but it’s not that I didn’t understand what to do, I just didn’t understand how exactly to do it. It made me miss my coach, he knows the difference between telling someone what to do, and how to do.

The next move was a lot better because I knew what was going on. It was if you’re passing but he catches your leg around the calf in a quater guard sort of thing. Is was just shin on his hip bone slide into side control. The keys here are keeping the connection on his hip with your shin then hip and pinning his shoulders. I like the lapel grip in his arm pit with a locked out arm on the offside of where you’re passing. I like an elbow grip close to my body on the other side, but he taught a sleeve grip. I just don’t think my arms are long enough for that. I also don’t like to let my arms very far from my body, then people try to take them.

Apparently they only do 2 moves on Sunday and it’s a roll heavy day. They do an hour of 6 minute rounds, but fuck, I don’t have that kind of endurance. I rolled 3 six minute rounds, and in the middle of the 3rd one I could feel the instant my body decided it wasn’t playing anymore. Next week I’ll aim for 4, I just need to get my rolling endurance up. It’s pretty fast pace for all 6 min, and there really isn’t a lot of crossover between rolling and any other type of cardio.

First round was with my white belt project. I worked on defending my back and mount. So I gave him everything else, only occasionally pointing out holes in his game. I really need to work on my mount escape, I was escaping mount, but it wasn’t pretty. Back was a lot easier, I just didn’t let him get any hooks in and kept moving. It was a good roll. He got to feel impressive and I got to work on stuff I haven’t done in a long ass time.

Afterwards, he was like, good job, I couldn’t take your back at all. I kinda wanted to be like, duh, of course not, but that would have just been pompous. I just happen to be better than these guys, in cle, I’m back at the bottom of the totem pole.

Next roll was with the instructor blue belt. Things went a lot smoother this time. I still need to work on what to do when he’s standing over me, but that happened a lot less than last time. During a scramble I managed to get my shoulder on his head and get a bit of a gullotine going, but I didn’t finish. I didn’t remember to open up a little bit and get my other hand in. I have got to start finishing more. Otherwise it’s going to be an issue.

I don’t want to get really good at almost finishing, I want to get good at finishing. He did catch my arm for an arm bar, but I managed to cross my arms and latch under his leg before he could take it. I almost tapped to the bicep slicer pressure, but managed to get my head over his leg and out. It was a good roll, really fast paced for the whole 6 min.

Last roll was with the other blue belt. Sweaty mother fucker. He kept dripping into my face so I closed my eyes for the whole roll. I kinda like it better with my eyes closed, I’m more aware of where he is in connection to me. We always start on the knees, and I don’t want to get into the habit of just going to gaurd to get the game moving. So, I think I’m going to go for necks to get the game going.

I just kinda reached out, grabbed the back of his head and pushed down. Being strong is nice! While he tried to recover (posture, bro, posture) I put my shoulder on the back of his neck and scrambled to his back. He didn’t give up the hooks easily, but I did pull him to the side and got one in. Stupidly though, I let him turn into me, and then he was in my gaurd. He still had posture issue though, and I really wanted an x-choke, so I got one lapel grip.

I was fighting for the other, but am strong enough to keep myself chest to chest even when he got posture in my guard. I was still fighting for the grip, and he couldn’t open me, so he just stood up. When he stood, I let him pick me up, then when he went to open I just let go and stood up. I pulled open gaurd after standing. I don’t know why. I suck at defending open guard when he’s standing, so he easily managed to pass to side control.

He was a little too much on his side though and I just shrimped out then stepped over him into a technical mount/side control variation. Then I just took a lapel, put my shin on his neck and choked him. Woo! That was only about 3 min in though. After that we kept rolling and my body just gave up, I was wiped. All I did was defend. Overall though, awesome roll! Winning is nice.

I just watched the next few round and took like 10 min to catch my breath. That 20 min was exhausting! I can’t wait until next week.

Thanks! I bought new workout pants yesterday, I think there’s something cool about weighing 170 and being able to cram into an XS. Yeah, density!

You do have to wonder what is says about the inconsistency in women’s sizing, but that’s a different story.

Monday:

Actually woke up feeling like a whole only slightly damaged person. I haven’t really mapped out how I want to work out the next two weeks, I think I’m just going to wing it. Base it on time and how I feel. Works going to be a bit of a sprint until next thrusday then I’m running away for 4 days! This morning I started with my usual coffee on the treadmill, then a bit of yoga and foam rolling. I need to look a bit more into stretching based off lexies latest post.

Then some shoulder stuff:
YTLW
Robertsons stuff
Face pulls
I played with different angles and grips and reps and weights for face pulls. I’m thinking 12 reps with one plate from the stack is working best right now. Retracting the scaps makes a huge difference in where I feel it. If I don’t it feel like all upper trap, if I do it’s shoulder.

That’s pretty much all I had time for, but it felt right and my shoulders have a nice dull site now, so I’m content.

Re race as a pickup… I’m trying to think if this has ever worked on me and no. No it hasn’t. Since I’ve gotten muscles dudes seem to regularly accuse me of being Russian. Which I’m not… And if I were… Why would that get my pussy wet? You have identified my nationality let’s Fuck!

Then again… If it was someone I was hella DTF it probably wouldn’t ruin it… And that shit you’re describing maybe would! Also I don’t like idiots.
