Patch2's Adventures 2

Hey Patch-

The side-by-side picture is awesome, you’ve got such a banging figure.

As for the program, have you ever read any of Martin Rooney’s stuff? I don’t believe it’s MMA specific, but I’ve used some of his workouts in the past and really enjoyed the athleticism of them, plus I think it’ll help to get you the ‘figure type body’ you’re after (but in defense of the 5/3/1, I think that would get you the shoulders, back, and ass as well).

If the link gets yoinked I’ll pm you.
Interesting link, it’s pretty CF like, I think there’s stuff to steal from it for days when I want something pukey, but as a baseline program I don’t I think I need something more predictable. Thanks for the link though, there’s a lot to read there.

That 531 for you sounds good, specially with your busy schedule and the warmness will be here soon…I know you like to play outside too.
Oh, it’ll be so nice when the warm is here. I don’t even need the warm, I want the, not ice.

I’ve added ALOT of muscle with 5 3 1. I just can’t show you til I get the fat of!
My muscle will have a layer of fats to protect it too, but I’m ok with that for now. I’m feeling way too small, and look good enough with my clothes on that I’ll deal with looking good naked after I’ve added a bit of muscle.

I think you should continue to show us whatever you can!
atypical1 wrote:
It’s really hard to go wrong with the basic movements right? You might just want to write down all the stuff that you want to do, align them with your goals, then pick programs based on that. And don’t forget that you have to like the stuff you do or you won’t. I’ve got KB’s sitting there collecting dust as a testament to that.

Oh, once you say to ignore something it becomes the only thing that we can pay attention to…

james
The problem is that I want to be able to do everything. I think for now though, I want to lift heavy things, and do compound movements.

I’m just a little wary of squatting because I haven’t done it in a while and am not very good at it. I think that just means it’s something I should work on though.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to give 531 the rest of the semester, so March to May.

Whenever I think about what I want, I think about this song, and the verse:

I hear a very gentle sound
With your ear down to the ground
We want the world and we want it…
We want the world and we want it…
Now
Now?
Now!

'cause you know, I want the world.

I am going to vote for 5/3/1 just so I can have another person to talk to about it, Lol.

I think it will help in the figure department stuff though. ESPECAILLY if you do the boring but big style template because then you’re doing 5 sets of 10 reps so you kinda end up getting the best of both worlds as far as rep schemes go.
ANNDDD that keeps your body guessing and muscle building!
I don’t know that it’ll be so much talking about it, as me asking lots of questions.

I’m leaning towards the BW program as accesory, because it kinda goes with what I’m doing now, at least the push up part.

Done.

For some grading lolz.

For training, i would go with 531, because then you would have your base. Then you can adjust the other things you want to do and go from there. So you could have your main lifting days, then a day or two for specifically other things like a hike or bjj. You could add say accessory work following the main lift or maybe the death mill followed by some mobility stuff following the main lifts on another day and etc.
Yeah that’s pretty much what I’m thinking.

I’ve been thinking about moving to Montana and building a little hobbit house to live in. Are you at the University of Montana? That’s pretty far from Browning though, huh.

I will admit to benefits on 531

but it was so b.o.r.i.n.g. like I am going to die of boredom boring

I might do 531 the version that is some kind of squat bench dead for all three days a week

for a few cycles just to get some gym economy

but I have problems with shoulders enough that I am not benching or squating
just front squating and OH pressing

defreancos WSFSB 3 or built like a bad ass you might like that
the first is for inseason athletes
the 2nd is for washed up meat heads
or anyone who wants to push some heavy stuff, and do some athletic shit.
I like boring, so much of life isn’t boring enough that I think I need some of it in the gym.

Tried to look up built like a badass, but all I found was a bunch of links for a $47 e book?

You know, if you aren’t good at squatting then I would do the full body template (it’s in the second edition…I can detail if for you if you would like). What I like about it is that you get to squat 3 days a week which means you get good at it.

I can easily hold my breath for 3 reps depending on the lift.

You can elevate your heels but you don’t have to if you’re hitting depth. If you do then just buy some weightlifting shoes. I’ve got the $90 pair of Adidas and they do the trick.

Don’t wimp the bar - this simply means to apply force when you lift the bar off the pins.

Well I for one am just happy you’re back posting in your log.
And that’s good if you have a lot of 5/3/1 questions because it will save me the time of asking them myself :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you’re feeling better.

That would be pretty cool to live in a hobbit house. I am at the University of Montana which is approximately 200 miles south of Browning. But if you did move to Montana and it was close enough, we would definitely have to meet up.

Why Browning though? Is there a teaching position at the blackfeet community college?

A group of ninjas are watching you.

It’s a new dress sort of day today! This is a weird week, I’m leaving for SB on thurs and then have a conference the last half of next week, so workouts are going to be weird and intermittent. I need a bit of that, before getting back into the grind.

M AM:
Foam rolled, stretched, a bit of yoga flow.

20 min on the deathmill. I had to take little breaks :frowning: got 1.5 miles done. I am sloooowwww, but that just means I’m inefficient, and thus burning lots o’ pizza off?

Played with squats a bit, I’m not meant to squat on monday morning. My body doesn’t know what’s going on. I played with a few permutations of squats. Some observations:

I can’t manage prisoner squats. Those are the ones with your arms behind your head, right? I tend to fall backwards. If I elevate heels by standing on 2.5lb plates, no problems though.

I can do BW squats with my arms crossed in front to me just fine, no weird balance issues. holding them straight out in front of me makes them even easier.

The squat rack was being hogged, and we only have one, so I didn’t do anything with the bar. I did some goblet squats instead. 30lb KB 5x5 cause when I don’t have a plan I go with 5x5

Then the steam room, I’ve been breaking out lately, so it was purely for vanity reasons, but the deathmill is too, so whatever, feels good man. I can’t wait until spring!

“I’m not a PLer, should I still squat to parallel? Go ATG?”

I would suggest going as low as you are comfortable with - assuming at least parallel. If you can go ATG then by all means. For me, my knees feel shaky beyond parallel.

Hold your breath for 3 reps… really? Do people do this?

I do not. And don’t think it is a good idea, either.

Should I try to elevate heels for squats? In other words, is squatting in my barefoot shoes a bad idea if I’m playing with heavyish weights?

Not as long as you are using the pins for protection. You should be good to go.

For BW assistance he says 75 reps, I can’t do 75 of anything. Should I do sets of AMRAP until I hit 75, or aim for a lower number?

Not 75 in one set. Total. IF you can’t do 75 pushups for example, do 7 sets of ten and one of 5. Or build up to that.
Ah, some answers, thanks!

Mostly because they have a CC and I’ve been thinking of ditching these R1 politics. I really like teaching, I’m good to start looking for something that’s a better fit over the summer, I think I want to be even more in the middle of no where.

I tried to post meme in your log like ten times yesterday!!! boooo.

If you use blackironbeast.com you don’t need to know your 1RM you can use Reps! I found that hella helpful.

You know, you seem to be the type of person who can pull off a lotta different styles.

You can be the girly girl, you can be the sexy girl, you can be the gym girl, the runner chick, etc etc… you just pull it off like you were a pro, no matter what!

I think that’s flippin’ awesome, man.
