On the surface it looks like a nice gesture from SBD, but the way they are behaving is not cool at all. Now that this story is out it could end up costing them money, look at the comments in the video. A whole bunch of people are saying they are done with SBD. SBD is not really anything special anyway, they were the first to come out with heavier knee sleeves but now Titan, Metal, Iron Rebel, Slingshot, and a whole bunch of other brands are selling similar sleeves. In fact, the Titan Yellow Jackets are supposedly even stronger and give more rebound, so much that USPA/IPL only allows them in the equipped division or in place of knee wraps. If you are going to compete in the IPF you could consider a tight pair of those.
It’s unfortunate that Titan doesn’t want to invest more money in the sport, but at least they aren’t being assholes about it. Anyway, they have been around for a long time and have established their reputation by selling high quality equipment for years so sponsoring two guys probably won’t make much difference for their business. SBD wants a monopoly, I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes with them and the IPF but it looks like SBD is their main business partner at this point. There was also no approved list (just specifications) until SBD came along.
