Partners In Crime - SBD and the IPF

Trying to monopolize the sport with no respect for anyone. Watch:

I also heard that their knee sleeves are thinner and less stiff than the original ones. I got mine when they first came out and never paid much attention to any other pair, is there any truth to this?

you gotta look at it from a business standpoint.
What they’re doing may be unethical, but its making them money.
Titan had the chance to stand up, they didn’t. In the end SBD is doing more for the sport than titan is…

I don’t think the sleeves are thinner. Maybe a little less stiff.
Love bryce’s video’s. Such great content

Vote with your dollars. Don’t buy from any supplier whose business practices turn you off and don’t lift in a federation which treats their lifters like shit.

On the surface it looks like a nice gesture from SBD, but the way they are behaving is not cool at all. Now that this story is out it could end up costing them money, look at the comments in the video. A whole bunch of people are saying they are done with SBD. SBD is not really anything special anyway, they were the first to come out with heavier knee sleeves but now Titan, Metal, Iron Rebel, Slingshot, and a whole bunch of other brands are selling similar sleeves. In fact, the Titan Yellow Jackets are supposedly even stronger and give more rebound, so much that USPA/IPL only allows them in the equipped division or in place of knee wraps. If you are going to compete in the IPF you could consider a tight pair of those.

It’s unfortunate that Titan doesn’t want to invest more money in the sport, but at least they aren’t being assholes about it. Anyway, they have been around for a long time and have established their reputation by selling high quality equipment for years so sponsoring two guys probably won’t make much difference for their business. SBD wants a monopoly, I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes with them and the IPF but it looks like SBD is their main business partner at this point. There was also no approved list (just specifications) until SBD came along.

I can see why, i think how they handled this is very unpleasant. And it was most certainly cost them money.

I’ve not used any other sleeves besides SBD’s so i cant speak from experience about other sleeves. But i doubt there’s that much difference between any given sleeve… To me picking the sleeve came down to pricing/availability, Which at the time of buying SBD won.

Part 2 of the story.

From this it sounds like what sbd did wasn’t as bad as it seemed in the video, and the CPU made a bad call. Titan stepping up they’re sponsoring game is gonna be good though

I very much agree with bryce’s opinion though. Aslong as powerlifting is a self funded sport we should be able to pick our own sponsors (We being high level lifters/famous lifters). As soon as the IPF/what ever fed start paying, they get to pick sponsorships/ deals.

That’s not really the conclusion that I draw from all this. He mentioned Ryan Stinn, who is the owner of Inner Strength Products and is the Canadian SBD distributor. Ryan is also an international level IPF lifter and was or maybe still is the team coach. Obviously him and Bryce know each other, and aside from any friendly loyalties there is also a thing called defamation which can result in lawsuits. I don’t know what goes on or went on between them, but the last video certainly didn’t boost Ryan’s sales. I have nothing bad to say about him, and as Bryce mentioned he actually helped pay the Canadian team’s fees to go to IPF worlds in the past. As much as I complain about the IPF I still have to concede that there are some decent people in the organization. I jst can’t figure out why they are still there.

So the thing is that SBD and CPU made a deal without consulting the lifters that it would affect and if Bryce and Adam Ramzy went with Titan then the whole deal would be voided. I wouldn’t really put the blame solely on the CPU, although they definitely deserve their fair share, because regardless of who said or signed what SBD still wouldn’t back down and let these guys take the Titan sponsorship. What the owner of SBD was trying to clarify was that the team sponsorship did not affect individual sponsorships they have with lifters on the team, so if the team sponsorship didn’t go through then whatever additional benefits these guys would get (cash prizes included) would no longer be there and those who aren’t sponsored would get nothing. When you look at what is going on it still doesn’t sound good because there is nothing to stop SBD from letting these two deal with Titan, except the fact that they are the two most likely to win a medal.

The CPU isn’t the only fed with a problem, it looks like any fed affiliated with the IPF is fucked up. Kim Walford just dropped out of USAPL nationals, from what I understand the USAPL was fucking around with her and she was going to represent US Virgin Islands (she has citizenship there) but now the IPF won’t accept her nomination for no reason other than that they are pieces of shit. Dennis Cornelius and John Haack already quit, who’s next?

The funny thing is that Dennis and Kim are both sponsored by SBD. Dennis wore Pioneer knee wraps at the US Open, I hear SBD knee wraps suck.

Here’s some more IPF drama from Australia, I forgot about this until now. Maybe @MarkKO knows more about this situation. In any case, it seems like another reason to stay away from anything to do with the IPF. It’s just bad vibes all the way through.

Is honest opinion not acceptable?

That’s my question when I receive my 1st legal letter from other party which is finally taking me to the court for a defamation case.

My name is Sean Muir. I am a Powerlifter. I am being sued because of my honest opinion in an email which was addressed to the head of powerlifting organisation in Australia (cc some of its directors, board, committee and my training partner who is a member).

Powerlifting for me is my passion. Competing in international championships to represent Australia is one of my pride.

It was upsetting moment when I knew that our national powerlifting organisation is being expelled by its international body. In international body’s AGM agenda and minutes of meeting, they reported clearly the reasons of expulsion.

In short, I decided to resign from that national powerlifting organisation. Soon after my resignation, I can still clearly captured in my memory when I receive phone call from head of the organisation to re-consider my resignation. That phone conversation made me believe that I could make a difference and help by speaking up and offering assistance.

I chose to express my thoughts and ideas that may get our national powerlifting organisation back to its international body through an email. Email was sent only to head of the organisation cc board, committee and my training partner who is a member. No other 3rd parties (i.e. no recipients outside our national organisation).

None of points in my email attack or attempt to reduce his reputation. I simply gave my honest opinion based on facts stated in international body’s AGM minutes.

Further, one of his replies was ask me to withdraw my email. I did withdrawal as requested and sent apology as well to all recipients. I remember he thanked me in an email after that. My email did not have the impact I hoped to which was keep our national powerlifting organisation in its international body so I commit to my resignation.

Time goes by, no more news after that.

In the meantime, my powerlifter colleagues and I created a new national powerlifting organisation and was accepted by the international body.

Soon after announcement of my organisation, I received legal challenge from the lawyer of head of the organisation.

My lawyer sent offer to make amends, but he didn’t accept it and then he claimed some amount in which for me and my lawyer believe is unreasonable. He is now taking me to court.

The estimated costs just for defending this are AU$30,000.00 however depending on how it goes it may well be more. Defamation cases like this can be very expensive to defend and I’d be very grateful for any assistance with costs.

I hope you can understand that it is important as a community we support sporting organisation but we also ensure that people have a right to have their opinion and have a right to speak out and offer assistance. There was no intended purpose to embarrass or humiliate any person what so ever. This type of silencing is unacceptable and I hope you can help to make sure it is not tolerated.

We expect to get approx. 60% back if we win. Any money earned above what is spent defending this case will be refunded to all who have helped in this crowd fund effort.

I am therefore seeking to raise an initial fund of at least $30,000.00. I might need to raise more if needed as the case goes on. Funds raised in this crowdfunder shall be used solely for my legal expenses. If I lose the case and damages are awarded to the claimant, I shall be personally liable for those costs.

In any responses to this message please don’t post any negative comments. I’m not trying to embarrass anyone with this plea. It’s about ensuring that we can have our opinion and our say.

Thank you very much.

Just more evidence of Robert Wilks being a cunt. This is the first I’ve heard of it @chris_ottawa but it doesn’t surprise me. Beyond a few people at Elite who compete in PA I have nothing to do with it, same as the IPF. I keep my mouth shut about my feelings because they’re decent people and I don’t want to upset them.

Did any of you see the stuff that went down with kim walford/the usapl?
Apparently she got kicked off the national team, and is now representing the virgin islands.
Dont know any details myself
Edit; she is infact not competing this june at ipf worlds, and is qualifying for a USPA meet.

I posted something about that a few replies back in this thread. Apparently the IPF refused to accept her nomination to represent USVI.

Very much agree

USAPL won’t even let you choose your own attempts at Worlds.

The other day I was thinking about this, did I start lifting weights because I wanted people to treat me like a bitch? I just can’t stand this shit, I couldn’t sit there and take it.

thats fucked up. Good for her she’s going into the USPA though.
I also saw Brett gibbs saying on a insta post if he was invited to the Kern us open next year he’d compete there.

Literal madness

Thats bad. There’s some lifter who’d probably like not being involved in the choice of attempts, But i think most lifters aren’t like that…

It’s not that they offer to help you out with attempt selection, they select the weights for you. Considering that lifters have to pay their own way to worlds with zero help from USAPL, that really doesn’t sound right. This was a big controversy last year, Chad Wesley Smith was talking about it in one of his videos (he coaches a couple IPF/USAPL lifters). They also wouldn’t let him into the warmup room at USAPL nationals because his shoes weren’t on the approved list they came up with that day, he had to change shoes and come back.

Like I’ve said numerous times. STOP ENTERING THEIR MEETS. The last straw for me was when they created the “anyone in the warmup room must have a membership” bullshit. I pulled out of a meet over the issue and will NEVER return to the USAPL.

I attended a Coan seminar so I guess i couldn’t join anyway. LOL

Don’t worry, I already quit. WPC and IPL run meets around here too these days, there is also a WRPF affiliate and a couple RPS meets each year. There are several different options, I see no reason to support the IPF at all.

You could give the USPA a try if they hold any meets in your area. Steve Dennison was the USPF pres. when they were the IPF affiliate before the holier than thou assholes of the USAPL moved in.
