Paranormal Activity

Case in point. It is fun hearing movie critiques about horror movies from people who generally don’t like horror movies.

Indeed, the thing is that I genuinely do enjoy horror movies. I have a quite a collection of ones new and old on my computer and I’ve probably seen most of them more than once. I really love being truly scared it’s a feeling that is one of my favorite to experience but this movie didn’t do it for me.

The movie almost felt like I was watching MST3K.

I never said i dont like them, i just dont usually bother seeing horror flicks in theatres because i guess you can say i dont scare easily. I think the fact that i was with 4 chicks and two of them that had even warned me they were “screamers” who all shared my feelings about the movie says something though.

on another note, anyone seen Wrong Turn 3? I remember watching the 1st one in college near the WV border, and I was skeered

The second one was a let down. I haven’t seen the third, but if it is the same or worse than the second, I’ll pass.

The first was classic.

I read the plot for this new horror flick.

A big, black oral surgeon is stuck in a clinic without access to shakes or beef…and he receives a fax that aliens have stolen all the HS bench machines within a 100 mile radius.

It’s funny, the only common denominator I’ve been able to find among people who hated paranormal activity in general, was that these people knew nothing about film at all. They thought they knew, but real recognizes real and they were all idiots. My 2 cents, don’t really care what you make of my take.

You have a lot of people lately who basically take a huge steaming shit on anything that isn’t a full fledged blockbuster. For them, everything sucks. I have friends like that and even talking about movies with them pisses me off because there apparently hasn’t been a good movie produced since The Godfather…and I think they only choose that one because enough OTHER people like it to where they would look stupid saying that sucks too.

There are people here who I would take the opinion of a movie more seriously, but I think most of them post in the Geek Shit thread.

Yep, i’d take them more seriously if they actually had criticisms that were rational or important, but usually they aren’t. I usually only discuss movies, and value the opinions on movies, with a select few people.[/quote]

It’s like that with most forms of mass entertainment, movies, TV, music, and so on, but I wouldn’t say that it had anything to do with “blockbuster” or not, more whether there is a consensus over said movie being a smart, good work of art. The Godfather is an obvious work to admire, whereas with these people you could make a case for a good action movie that was popular, unless it was a cult film or something.

And it’s funny because if you want to engage in a discussion they’ll discuss anything about the film/song/show BUT it’s content. The industry’s effect, the intelligence of average people, art vs. commerce, “film/music is dead”, all the stuff that doesn’t matter, but nothing about the work in question. 'Cause that’s harder than regurgitating talking point you read or heard somewhere.

Sort of like people who supplement science and theory for real experience when discussing training. It’s easier.

Sorry for the rant.
