Palestinians

Dennis Miller’s take on the MIddle East situation. His analysis of this is better than his analysis of football.

A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don’t get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really need. Don’t thank me. I’m a giver.

Here we go: the Palestinians want their own country. There’s just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It’s a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like “Wiccan,” “Palestinian” sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no “Palestinians” then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no “Palestinians” then. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the “Palestinians,” weeping for their deep bond with their lost “land” and “nation.” So for the sake of honesty, let’s not use the word “Palestinian” any more to describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they’re being taped. Instead, let’s call them what they are: “Other Arabs From The Same General Area Who Are In Deep Denial About Never Being Able To Accomplish Anything In Life And Would Rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death,” I know that’s a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: “Adjacent Jew-Haters.”

Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters want their own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don’t. They could’ve had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially two years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and, worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. That’s no fun. No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel. They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course-that’s where the real fun is-but mostly they want Israel. Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel-or “The Zionist Entity” as their textbooks call it-for the last fifty years has allowed the rulers of Arab countries to divert the attention of their own people away from the fact that they’re the blue-ribbon most illiterate, poorest, and tribally backward on God’s Earth, and if you’ve ever been around God’s Earth, you know that’s really saying something. It makes me roll my eyes every time one of our pundits waxes poetic about the great history and culture of the Muslim MidEast. Unless I’m missing something, the Arabs haven’t given anything to the world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that one. Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs; five million Jews. Think of all the Arab countries as a football field, and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it. And now these same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of matches, everyone will be pals. Really? Wow, what neat news. Hey, but what about the string of wars to obliterate the tiny country and the constant din of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea? Oh, that? We were just kidding.

My friend Kevin Rooney made a gorgeous point the other day: Just reverse the numbers. Imagine five hundred million Jews and five million Arabs. I was stunned at the simple brilliance of it. Can anyone picture the Jews strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of course not. Or marshaling every fiber and force at their disposal for generations to drive a tiny Arab State into the sea? Nonsense. Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of children? Disgusting. No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.

Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that with vital operations coming up against Iraq and others, it’s in our interest, as Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible, and, after all, that can’t be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of supermodels who’ve just had their drugs taken away. However, in any big-picture strategy, there’s always a danger of losing moral weight. We’ve already lost some. After September 11 our president told us and the world he was going to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them. Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint. If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan. (Hey, wait a minute, that’s actually not such a bad idea . . . uh, that is, what a horrible thought, yeah, horrible.)

Brilliant

I’m no expert on the Mid-East, but I have to say that, from a layman’s point of view, this post is absolutely brilliant. Coyote, you magnificent bastard, I salute you!

Like I said in another thread,“Kill 'em all and let God sort them out”. Fuck both of them they are all crazy the US should mind their own business for a change. Drop a bomb on the Middle East! End of problem!!!

A very accurate description of the situation.

Right on brother

Does the world really need another despotic, terrorist nation? I don’t think so. There are plenty of those already. If the Arab nations really wanted to help the “Palestinians”, they could’ve absorbed them all into their nations long ago

Nice take on the situation. You did a great job of breaking it down. It really is that simple isn’t it. Who the hell keeps on blurring these facts? Keep posting. I would love to see someone debate you on this.

That…was awesome. TC, you neeed to give this man his own collumn.

Uh, guys, Coyote didn’t write that, he just gave us the transcript of a Dennis Miller rant. He says so at the top of his post. Just thought I’d clarify.

Dennis Miller addressed this piece on his show a couple of weeks ago because he keeps getting credit for it and didn’t write it. It was actually written by a guy named Larry Miller, but since it’s funny and intelligent people started assuming it must’ve been written by Dennis Miller.

Just to give you all an idea of how fucked up things are in Canada, get this. The Toronto District School board had been renting evening classroon space to an unnamed muslim group. Well one day after the class finished colourings done by children were found depicting sharklike warplanes dropping bombs on palestinian towns, with captions saying the Jews bomb our schools, gardens and homes. These were colour by number shit given to the kids. What does the school board do? Nothing. The won’t even name the group. The group in question promises not to do it again. Well that’s good enough for me. Can you image if a Jewish group did that? We’d never hear the end of it. My tax dollars are funding this shit. Our supposidly peace loving goverment all but accuses Isreal of being the terrorist. Then an NDP MP,who’s only claim to fame is that he is openly gay, goes to talk to Arafat in hopes he can broker some deal. I think Arafat said “Sven who?” and refused to meet with him. Man I am so fucking embarrased.

Yeah, get your political lesson from a flunky comic. Miller…hmmm is that Jewish. Sorry, but the words spoken there are so typical of the Jewish view of the situation. The Palestinians are not a legitimate entity, blah blah blah. What about the Jews? They haven’t had a country since two thousand years ago. Shouldn’t they be considered a religious group that have their nationality in various European countries they reside in and citizens of the U.S., the home to the largest population of Jews? I can become a Jew by converting for goodness sakes. Since when is a religious group entitled to land they resided in 2000 years ago? I’ve got facts for you. Jews are just ONE of MANY different groups that have rule the region. They significant only in that Britain and the U.S. are predominantly Judeo-Christian nations. The Palestinians are a legitimate nation (nation in the sense the Cherokee were a nation), and the ethnic group have been called “Filastin” in Arabic for centuries before Israel was conjured up by the Brits in 1948. In spite of the myths propagated by Jewish groups and the Christian-right, the legitimacy of the Palestinian ethnicity is not questioned by the rest of the world. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, Palestine the natural home of the Palestinians like France is the natural home of the French. The Miller rant follows the logic that Mexicans are not a legitimate nation apart from Spain, since they speak Spanish. All this talk about Arabs as a monolithic entity denies the fact that they are separate countries with differing cultures. The image of Arab unity is a facade. In the end, I don’t care if the Palestinians are a fraud. I don’t believe that they are, but it doesn’t really change my views if they are. The fact remains that they are the descendants of people who have lived there for the last few centuries, whether they be Egyptian, Syrian, Jordanian or just plain vanilla ARAB. Hicks in Kentucky believe they are the legitimate heirs of their land after living there only for the last couple of hundred years and no one would think of giving a part of Kentucky to the Jews to redress the wrongs of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a horrible wrong inflicted on humanity, but the creation of Israel was wrong too. Check out www.catus48.com. It is maintained by American Jews who oppose Zionism. If you are pro-Israel, you probably won’t be convinced, for you will no doubt come up with sophistries to rationalize your beliefs. However, I hope that someone with an open mind can read it and come away with something valuable. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not advocating the destruction of Israel, as wrong as its creation was. Israel is here to stay, but the Palestinian reaction to it creation was as predictable as any typical human reaction to loss of their land (ie. Northern Ireland). It will take a long time for the Palestinians to accept Israel as legitimate. Frankly, I’m not sure what I would do if I was a Palestinian. Here is David Ben-Gurion’s take on what he would do if he was Arab: “Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader, I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country. Sure, God promised it to us, but what does that matter to them? Our God is not theirs, We come from Israel, it’s true, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we came here and stole their country. Why should they accept that?” David Ben-Gurion, quoted in “The Jewish Paradox” by Nathan Goldman, former president of the World Jewish Congress.

There are no Palestinians. You meant to call them egyptians, jordanians, syrians? And, Miller isn’t Jewish. When was the last time Arab Palestinians ruled over the land that now is Israel?

Hyok: Don’t waste your time buddy. It doesn’t matter how much research you do or how many reasoned explanations you put forth you’re not going to change any minds on this forum. Its kinda dissapointing really because most people here call themselves t-men and attribute to t- men all sort of wonderful characteristice but refuse to see how the palestinian people are being oppressed and can only see they point of view of the mightier nation. Worse yet, they jump on a nonsensical tirade and proclaim it a rational examination.

Actually, I would rather see some honesty, rather than convoluted arguments to legitimize Israel. I would rather hear, “I was raised in a Judeo-Christian society, so I favor Israel because the Jews are the descendants of the Israelites I read about in the Bible.” or “I like Israel because the Arabs look funny and don’t shave, while the Jewish culture is something familiar to me because I frequent Jewish delis and watch movies made by Jewish directors.” At least it would be the truth.

Just because no one is buying your nazi/arab crap doesn’t mean they are not open minded. I think it is you two who lack any openmindedness. I bet you get most of your opinions from questionable websites and your apparent dislike for Isreal. Biggots and racists like you are not welcome on this board.

Hee-hee, looks like it’s shaping up to be a good one, folks . . . !

Masolman: I’m wondering if you even know what a bigot is. We’re not welcome on this board? Seems like you’re the one with intolerance for peoples beliefs.
The fact that you would class nazis and arabs in the same group speak volumes about your ignorance. Shut up and pay attention…you might learn something!

Having looked at the Mideast situation with an open-mind, and lacking any connection with either Jews or Arabs, I am not ashamed to say that I am pro-Palestinian. I would say that after the Jews in the Holocaust, Palestinians have suffered more than any group of the last century. Ironic? You bet.
