Owlie's Training Log

Strong owl

Awesome work on those squats. I know N’ wants 'em for Christmas, but I’m not that patient… I’d like them right now, please. I’ll make up a holiday. Very nice work.

Absolutely awesome squat workout. And way to conquer your mental demons and push yourself.

X2!! Too funny.

Great squatting Owlie. Even in your state of indecision your workouts are completely focused and always impressive. That says a lot.

Betty, nlmain-thanks! I will dedicate my next squat workouts to each of you…

Frzn-Arctc-Thanks woman, but I been watching you and you are just right around the corner from me on squats, yes? I believe your deadlift has already surpassed mine.

Miss Plucky-where did you get pic of me?

Bobbi-yes, please do not let me forget this wisdom. I have been fooled by my body’s responses too many times. I need to sharpen the iron will.

Snapper-I gotta give them demons hell for ya. Next time I have to do battle I’ll give them the finger for ya.

Masch-thank you! Also, I think I have found my marbles. I lost my brain for a minute there and forgot who I am. I remember now. I am here to put in work and give the weights hell. Fuck the confusion and body image stuff. As long as I am getting progressively stronger, staying healthy, and can still fit in my jeans, amiright? If I want to go in and get a pump here and there too, no problem. If I need to deload a day or even a week, no problems, as long as I stay positive and focused on my goals.

Today was a lot of foam rolling and 28 min of low intensity cardio to get that blood pumping and repairing those legs. Ahhh, feels great to get my spirit back. Kimba, if you read this I think my diet WAS the culprit. Too many high GI carbs can really mess with my mood, and according to an article I read recently, apparently they’re even worse for my health that I ever knew.

yay, proudah you!!!

this is why/how I lift. long term satisfaction. good for you, but we all need shaking up a little at times.

Deadlift day-getting my form in check
135x5x2
185 x buncha singles
205 x >10 singles
225 x >10 singuls
235 x 2 singles

shit, this took FOREVER. Why is my deadlift form so sloppy?? Wait, no don’t answer that. My 225s looked perfecto though by the end. I just need to be ever patient. Next Friday hopefully I will graduate to an actual work set.

leg press
6 plates+2 35s x12, lol thought they were 25s, so leg press PR I guess
6 plates x 15x3

Man, no more wheat for me on a daily basis. It gives me bad gas for real. I have been having the gas for so long. I had thought it was either from wheat, fruit, or dairy. I made a ton of brown rice pudding last weekend and I was just eating it with every breakfast instead of my usual sprouted toast, and guess what?? No gas. Brown rice=no gas. Oats=no gas. Fruits and veggies=no gas. Cottage cheese =no gas. Then tonight came around…Whole wheat pasta/bread=GAS CITY UNIVERSE(ok maybe I exaggerate but it was certainly on a grander scale than Gas Town, USA). You are welcome for this very enriching moment in the history of your lives.

On a less gassy note, its coming into sweet potato/pumpkin season!!! So exciting.

What were you pulling before you started working form?

I know, yay pumpkins!!!

My last heavy set was 245x4 off one plate, but then I didn’t deadlift again for two weeks, and when I did my single at 240 was messy, maybe the set of 4 was a mess too though. IDK MESS.

So it WAS the diet. Owlie, I am so happy for you that you figured this out!

High GI carbs are truly the devil for some of us, me included. I ate a bunch of mac n’ cheese last weekend as a “special treat” and felt godawful for two days, both in mood and physically.

The squats and deads in here are enormously awesome. Very inspiring.

I just had pumpkin bread…mmmmmm…freshly made from the farmers market. I’ll be paying for it later.

I don’t know if your going to go full on gluten free, but here is a good sight you might have read Cal mention before.

BTW owlz, been pushing the T-sled, it’s bomb-diggity good.

Thanks for the link! I’m not going entirely gluten free, no, just need to remember to not eat bread every day. Lol.

Agreed on both sentiments! And in the end, i think its so important to listen to our bodies and figure out what kinds of fitness/eating regimens work for us, tweaking it along the way as our bodies change and adapt, etc. Good on you Owlie!

That said, you’re my freakin’ hero with the way you pull. I really hope I can get to where you’re at one day - those DL numbers are spectacular! And I’m sure the form ain’t too bad - it’ll be back in no time.

Much to my dismay, there isn’t single food that troubles my belly. Sigh…

Thank you Maschy. Another thought on food: if only it weren’t so delicious, I would be a freaking machine. Alas, it is, and I have my desires that flow and recede like the tide. I agree that I just have to pay attention to what’s going on internally and strive for balance between eating for health and eating for sensation. Call me a hedonist, but taste is one of my five senses and this is my one and only life after all! That being said, now that I know wheat bothers me I will reserve it for rare occasions. I really only found that out by accident in the face of a surplus of brown rice. Lol.
