Owlie's Training Log

Haha I dunno, I have never done one and I am not used to the protocol yet so I will be easing in. I hope to lift some personal bests, but again, I will be happy if I don’t poop

Bench-wrist was acting funny today, but nothing acute just sort of achey

Annnd That was all. I’m planning on doing some paused sets with commands on Saturday and again next Wednesday, really taking it easy on Wednesday.

You better take it damn easy that close to the meet.

Totally awesome Owlie!! Great deads. I’m so excited for your meet.

you have the right idea about the meet! its all about getting your feet wet, and being there–not like i’m an expert at all …but ALSO --YOU have nothing to worry about number wise, you’re numbers are very impressive and you are going to do awesome  have fun and try not to barf

and i am bad about the meat thing as well. i am not even anywhere close to becoming a vegatarian, i love me some turkey…but i don’t buy it much … because i’m cheap :stuck_out_tongue: so maybe i’m a veggie by proxie…or just a cheap bastard.

Nothing too exciting

This is my last heavy day before the meet on 4/24. I am going to deload and practice openers with commands Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday, and then nothing on Thursday and Friday. I have to admit I’m going to savor this time. I expect to have crazy nerves before the meet, but for someone as phobic of competition as myself, I will consider just participating a success.

If you are phobic about competition, then doing this meet is a perfect way to overcome that.

I’m planning a buncha singles on my Sunday squat day. Just 100+ lbs. less than you.

I can’t imagine squatting 245!! Thats insane. (in a good way!)

140x1x2(third, if all goes well)

looking good Owlie - I can hardly believe you have the same bench as me with that tiny frame of yours. No jealousy just aw.

Here is a list one of the guys gave me for my first meet of things to remember:

"Items to remember:
1.belt
2.chalk
3.singlet
4.lifting shoes/extra socks
5.sweat shirt and exercise pants
6.cooler for food and drinks
7.food/power bars
8.water/gatorade/power drinks
9.iPod
10. print a lbs. to kg. coversion chart just in case

Don’t assume they’ll supply chalk. I got cold waiting between lifts so I wore my sweat shirt and pants. The PB & J was easy on my stomach and gave a lot of energy. Remember to follow all commands. My first meet I blew a rack command with bench and the lift was no good. I think you’ll find fellow lifters are very friendly and willing to help or give advice."

Also, make sure you have socks that are snug and come right up to your knees. Is it two hour weigh in? If so, get in line early if you can and get it done (they should do equipment check at the same time) so you can start eating and cure any equipment problems that you might have, if any.

Meets are a lot of fun, you’ll do great.

Thanks so much for the list! PB&j is a staple so I will definitely have that, but I hadn’t even though to bring sweats and I’m sure I’ll be glad I did. Tall socks are probably something I would have forgotten too, even though I know I’m supposed to have them. Also I now know to bring my own chalk! I should just print out this page.

No problem. The only other thing I can think of is that you have 60 seconds to lift when your turn comes. It may not sound like it, but this is a lot of time. Go ahead and use some of it. Don’t feel pressured to run up and lift when they call your name. Take a few deep breaths, take your time, and be deliberate. Act like you own the place, because during your 60 seconds, you do own the place. Don’t step up until you are composed and ready. Then, go kill it.

That is good advice. I have made the mistake in the past of doing a 1RM attempt before I was completely ready only to fail a rep I would have otherwise gotten. I don’t want to let that happen!

I’m so excited for you to do your meet, Owlie!! You’ve got recent PRs coming out the wazoo (yes, wazoo), and lots of great help from the experts around here - I’m sure you’re going to kill it!

Don’t forget the “I didn’t shit in my pants” vid, k?

Since I don’t eat or drink the night before the meet or the morning before weigh in, my coach advised me to bring one of those ready-to-drink Cambell’s chicken noodle soups. After weigh in, I slog it down. The high sodium content makes the body retain the water you’ll also want to be pounding. Hydrated muscles are strong muscles. Other food faves of mine for meets are avocados, Triskets (salty, yum), apples, bananas, bagels with cream cheese, ready-pac tuna, cheese, and of course PB&J. I find myself incredibly hungry throughout the meet (what a surprise) and just eat sort of nonstop.

GOOD LUCK! Can’t wait to hear back!

i’m sure you already know, but my advice is listen to the commands!

you are going to have alot of fun and take pictures and videos!

Sending good vibes over for your meet! Hope you have fun!

everyone is wishing you luck for the meet…I went back a couple pages and couldn’t find the date…when is it? and GOOD LUCK!!

This weekend right? Best of luck!

Thank you!! Its so close…EARLY Saturday morning.
