You better make it to the Olympics Andy! How awesome would that be?[/quote]

pretty friggin awesome. I got a log going in the log thread in the Olympic lifting forum in case you’re interested.

I am interested, I’ll check it out.
Today I just went in to “max” my squats. Got a little dynamic effort in but no back off sets.

SQUATS
Bar 3x10
135lbs 1x5
155lbs 1x5
185lbs 1x3
205lbs 1x1
225lbs 1x1
230lbs 1x1!!(5lb PR)

230lbs was freaking easy. I think I am adapting and “learning” to handle the heavier weights. As John Broz explained in one of his Q & As I read somewhere, sometimes you are actually strong enough to make a lift, but your body doesn’t necessarily “know” how to lift something that heavy yet and you have to teach it by regularly working around your max. I decided not to go any heavier because I am easing myself into squatting way more and I don’t want to overextend myself from the get go. I don’t know if this was the best decision considering it seemed like I was on a roll. My training partner thought I should have at least tried 235lbs.

woo hoo… nice pr!!

x2!

I’ll third that!
WTG!!

I want to learn some oly lifts too…just to mix it up…

and to hijack a bit.what an AWESOME GOAL PB ANDY!! wow!

Owlie, your strength to weight ratio is huge! Really huge! Do you compete in powerlifting? If not, you should. And I’ll bet you would be phenomenal at the Oly lifs.

Thanks! I’ve never participated in a meet, but I want to. I ordered a belt a few weeks back, but it had to be custom made because I just HAD to have a purple one haha, so its not here yet. I think I’m going to be more proactive about looking for meets in th area. I’m in Texas, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one at least within day-trip distance. I’ll make it a goal to compete in one sometime this summer.

USAPL has a huge presence in Texas. Check out the USAPL website.

Thanks snapper! I sure will

Today’s Work:

SQUATS
135lbs 1x5
Didn’t max today. I think I will actually take a whole day off tomorrow and do some sub-maximal volume on Wednesday

DEADLIFTS
167.5lbs 1x5
177.5lbs 1x5
187.5lbs 1x10
1 rep PR here. I was pretty happy with this because I stressed my CNS a bit yesterday with the 230lb squat and I didn’t know how I would do

Speed sets:
135lbs for 30 reps
one rep every 45sec

DUMBBELL ROWS
50lbs 1x18
3 more reps than last time before my grip failed
1x15
1x12
drop-setted last set to
45lbs
1x15
35lbs
1x10

In the next few coming months I will really be tightening up the diet a LOT. I am prepared to see my lifts stall and maybe even regress a little. I don’t really know what will happen because I have never tried seriously dieting since I was just a beginner at this and as a beginner you can practically see gains on a diet of Dr Pepper, skittles, and beef jerky. Anyway, My reason for doing this is that I am around 134lbs. which is a 13lb gain in 3 months and it is DEFINITELY not all muscle. At 5’3", this makes me a very miserable owlie. I have a tiny skeleton, and to be honest 125lbs is even pushing the limits of how much I want to weigh to be happy and comfortable. Before I commit to competing in any meets, I want to be at a comfortable 120lbs. so I have room to fluctuate a little.

Also, I just need to get my health back in check. I used to eat a primarily plant based diet. Beans, veggies, the odd fruit, meat, whey, eggs. straight, no bullshit(side from the occasional cheat but even than I would always make my own cheat meals or chose the healthiest thing at a restaurant). Recently, there have been more cheats, more meals out, bigger portions, “calorie amnesia” more snacks here and there. For convenience sake I have been eating more grains and simple carbs which has had an adverse effect on my mood and general feelings of “healthiness” I need to get my groove back and eat for my physical and mental health.

Sorry for the rant, but if you suffered through that, there’s probably nothing I log here you won’t be able to handle heh.

I will post before pics within the next few days just so I have something extra to hold me accountable.

First of all, DAAAAAMMMNNN! 230 on the squat is awesome! You really should do a meet. You’ll blow them away.

Secondly, I completely understand getting the eating in check - I’m with you on this.

My question is: I’ve seen your vids, you look teeny! Where do you store all that weight?!

I do have a tiny frame so it doesn’t have many places to go. Belly mainly. Right in the center around the belly button. :frowning: Which is why I’m extra concerned about keeping my body fat down. Its just not a healthy place to store, stupid body! My waist went from 25.75 to 27.5 in a couple months and that is NOT healthy. Its really weird too because my body fat on my hips is relatively low. At 123, I had some serious veins popping out over my hip bones, but still a little pooch covering my lower abs. A bit goes to the low back and thigh too. When I hit 130lbs it started going on the arms and shoulders and I knew I was in trouble.

I am concerned about body fat for vanity reasons yes, but I am also a health nut and that kind of torso fat just won’t fly, so I have no choice but to get and keep my body fat low, not that that is a bad thing.

Here is a picture pre-thanksgiving. I think I was around 126 or 128lbs. Excuse the morning look. Ideally, I would like to be between 5 & 10lbs less than body weight here. We will see when I get there.

Here is a picture of current belly-age. I will post better “before” pics of entire physique tomorrow. Notice there is less of a tapering in the waist region. I know it is not THAT bad yet, but it is on the road to unhealthiness.

just an fyi owlie- I carry a little extra around the hips myself but I undertsand that those extra few pounds help with my strength goals. Perhaps there is a “middle ground” you can find between being lean and hitting those lifting numbers?? also eating clean=lean mass gain. But I know you know so I’ll shut up now.
cheers
N

Yeah, honestly, I think a low 120lbs would be a middle ground for me. Considering my frame, I could healthfully be between 105 and 110 super lean, so I think 120 is a compromise, but enough number talk! More noshing on spinach.

me thinks you need to start posting in the T-vixen thread.

I don’t think that it’s a health issue at that level, but what do I know.

After my meet I’m going on a fat-loss shvung too – we can be buddies.

You look absolutely fab in the first photo. I don’t see any excess on you at all. I do see some more fluff around the middle on the second one. So, it’s reasonable to address that through your diet. That being said, I would stop focusing on the number on the scale! Lean muscle weighs more than fat, as you well know. And seeing how small you are, I am even more impressed by the numbers you are logging!!
