The z-press is this months challenge within a challenge. We are trying for body weight (close or better) with videos due by the 25th. Come join in the fun.
Ag have you done these? I have, BW may be difficult.
Yep, spoke about it a few pages back. I think bw will be difficult which is why I think it is a good challenge. (It is humbling as well.). My first attempt left me 15 lbs short.

If we all fall short them we all have a good laugh. If a couple of people actually pull it off them they get lauded like gods until the next challenge.

Bear in mind I knixed the squating snatch grip press. That made the z-presses feel simple.
I did these early this year, BUT my MP and Push Press has gone up since then. I was going to do them today but was a little pressed for time so just did a finisher.

I do agree would love to see some videos of people trying the BW.
Congrats on you MP & PP going up in the past three days!
Thanks, the week off and over eating helped I think. My shoulder didnt even hurt today, first time in about 9 months.
Taking the whole week off must be key. I only worked out twice last week and overate and my recovery sucked.

Yesterday sucked balls, and I didnt even get good rest last night. I was also work and everything last week, I literally did nothing.

Worked up to a 180 DB push press from the floor today. Only got 2 reps with it though.
Nicely done, you look a lot thinner what are you weighing?

Help the db down with the other hand though can’t be good on the shoulder dropping it like that!
Thanks my friend. It was not my intention to drop the DB like I did, but momentum got the better of me. I think I might be good for a few more reps if I can work on my catch a bit.

I still am hovering around 240. Right now, depending on scheduling, I will be doing a meet in late march.
Try bringing your opposite hand over to help lower it down

For sure gonna be difficult! I think I got it in me though when I test it for 1rm again. I got 185 the first time and am a little lighter now. Not by choice I got food poisoning last week the goal is still 200lbs wither I am 195 or 200

That sucks I can handle a cold, but GI issues cant stand.

I never tried 1 rm only doing the boring but big, or just sets of 5.

It was awful man lost 10lbs put 5 of them back on and am back to hitting PRs

Yeah its not something I’d go for a max on i plan to stay with 3x3 and 3x5 till I test it before the deadline. The max is just for a challenge

^ Agreed

Here are the videos I promised. I am at Metroflex in Plano training with the big boys and girls. The audio is off so it takes away from the effect but here they are nonetheless.

Unofficial clean & push press PR - not really sure about the accuracy of the weights
210 lbs @ 160

you have to wait for the push press

My first time playing around with a metal strongman log. Did these after the C&PP above. 90lbs log + 90 lbs.

Watch for my signature “resting of the log on my head”.

Okay, trying again. Sorry about the focus, this is the C&PP mentioned above.

Nicely done even though thats a horrible camera angle

the log you need to get your elbows higher its why you cant get good drive off the chest. Also the rest on head technique was made famous by Jon Pall Sigmarsson but is no longer allowed

Didn’t realize you were 160lbs

The reflection worked really well in the first few vids (unposted) but got worse, I think some chalk may have found its way onto the lens. Plus, my editing software chops off parts of the shot, this time the bottom (though usually it is the top).

My rest-on-head was unplanned. I remembered your advice of getting my head through and did not feel like backing out at that point. The log is definitely harder than a regular bar.

Yeah, I am tiny.

Aha!!! Now I see what you mean. Forgive my horrible reading skills. Thanks, I will give it a shot.

Texag,

Dude, you need a photography class.jk.

Good clean and jerk though, and log press.

Out of curiousity, how long are you going to be in the Metroplex? Care to meet up for an overhead press session sometime?

This thread turns me on more than TILF.

Already left TX. I will be back this summer. Definitely could set up a play date once I know when I will be there.

If this thread is still alive we then we could film you one-arm pressing me. I will try to remember to bring my rock climbing harness.

This makes the whole thread worth it.

For those doing the z-press I found that.setting up so the bar is under my chin got me in a position where I could be more explosive off the pins. Do not forget to get your chin out of the way. I found getting my head through was more automatic from this position as.well.

Kalle - do we care about using elbow wraps? Not sure I do, will try them next week. I am of the attitude that I just want to see them done.

I prefer to press off fat-grips so I will he using those.

When you press with fat-grips, do you use a false grip? Do you do any other type of pressing with the fat-grips?

I just got a set and used them for the first time yesterday for incline. I press exclusively with a false grip, but was a little intimidated by how it felt with the fat-grips. It felt like there was a greater risk of them rolling off my hand so I wrapped my thumb. I can’t stand pressing that way, though.

Is that just something I need to get used to or what?

It takes some time to get used to them. I press with false grips, have been pretty much since I started lifting for various reasons. Flat bench and OH presses from pins feel fine. When I read “incline” I winced a little, so I am guessing I have trouble setting those up with the FGs. (the last time I inclined benches I did not find a good position, not sure if I was using FGs or not.) The bar sits on your wrist differently so some angles might feel weird, I tried to adjust my grip once using them and got to wear the bar afterwards. I suggest working within a powercage until you get used to them.

Hope that helps.
