Over Half Way to Goal

Awesome progress! That’s so cool about your son! It’s so neat to have something like that in common with your son.

Your sets are listed sets x reps, correct?

Sounds like you’re making some great progress! I second what Kimba said.

Right, and I wasn’t sure if I was doing that correctly. So, my lat pulldowns are 5 sets of 8.

Okay Kimba and RBlue, I will shoot for 5 x 7 tonight!

Some pics from my son’s graduation. First time EVER I’ve had a back side I enjoyed seeing in a pic!!

My son and I

This will explain why, at 50, my goal was to lose a bunch of fat and put on a bunch of muscle, kicking diabetes. When we took this photo, my step dad said, “Do you have a wide angle lens??” Everyone laughed except my mom. By the way, she spent the entire time telling me I looked so young, look so small and tried to get me to eat dessert 3 times a day. For real.

I woke up Tuesday morning and wasn’t even in the shower yet and she was yelling upstairs do we want strawberry shortcake?? I was like WTF. No mom. Krispy Kreme Donuts? Eat whatever you want mom!!! She is truly addicted to sugar and I used to be too. Tough addiction to kick but it feels great when you do. Not saying I don’t have a $9 slice of coconut creme pie about every 3 months (yes it is worth the price) but I don’t eat sweets 3 times a day, 7 days a week. I’m SO glad to be back home!!

Two huge milestones achieved: a back view picture that you like (nice calf definition too, BTW) and your son graduated! You must be feeling pretty damn pleased right now.

Congratulations to your son, and your calves are looking PHENOMENAL LADY!!!

_Mel

You look fabulous! Congrats on your son and welcome back!

those calves are something to chew on! welcome back Deb.

Thanks ladies! I love the view of the calves also.

All I can say is “wow.” I’m tremendously impressed.

Thanks kpsnap! Today’s work out:

Squats 95 lbs 5x5
Seated Rows 65 lbs 5x5
Lat Pulldowns 75 lbs 5x8
Push ups 5x7
Push Presses 60 lbs 1x5 (did these last and arms were toast)

Good work out tonight. Went even though it was the first sunny day we’ve had in a week! The squats got challenging on the last set which is better than last week. The seated rows – same thing. Lat pulldowns – I increased it by 5 pounds from last week and each set was challenging. Increased the push ups (as you ladies suggested) and they were a challenge. I did the push presses last instead of within the rotation (due to the set up of the equipment) and my arms were toast.

Increased weights and pushup reps! YEAH!

Okay since my schedule was thrown off by the trip to Michigan, I had to do my DLs on a Sunday. Early in the day time work outs never work well for me. First mistake was 2 eggs instead of 3 at 9 a.m., small yogurt at 10 a.m., stopping for the pedicure and having to wait, and THEN getting to the gym at 1 p.m. without any more food in me. Argggg. Took my Biotest Surge and was chugging but it was too late to do any good. Didn’t have the fifth set in me for any of the moves.

145 lb DL 4 x 5
35 lb bentover row 4 x 8
30 lb one arm DB press 4 x 5
65 lb push presses 4 x 5
7 push ups (I stopped after one set of 7 because I was struggling so hard with the rest and do push ups at every work out)

My DLs were an effing struggle set 1 to set 4. I had to pause between every one of them. I was huffing and puffing too. Even though I stopped one set short I was happy that I got the other 4 done given the lack of food (damnit). My walk home (about 12 minutes) was a little sluggish where I usually walk home briskly no matter what the work out was. Now I’m going to do a quick shower and get some food in me! Back to my normal schedule this week!

Yay for pushing through! It’s good that you still felt positive even though you only did 4 sets instead of 5. You could have stopped after 1 or not even gone b/c of the food situation. Shows definite dedication. Go you!

I haven’t learned to DL yet, don’t know when that’ll happen

Would love to see some vid from you, Deb.

Well I posted my 185 a few pages ago but in order to vid that means I need to …well maybe not upgrade…I’ll check my cam now.

Okay it’s time to update my progress! The gym still hasn’t chosen a new trainer they think would be my “type” so I decided to break out the tape measure myself! Last assessment was 5/8/10. Here’s today’s numbers:

Weight: 150 (no change)
Chest: 37 (no change)
Arm R: 12 (no change)
Forearm R: 10 (no change)
Waist: 33.5 (-1.5)
Hip: 37.5 (-1.5)
Thigh R: 21.5 (-1.25)
Calf R: 15 (-1.5)

Flexed arm (I see the boys on T-Nation do this measurement so I did it for fun!!): 13 – woo hoo!

A loss of 5.75 inches in 5 weeks works for me!! I’m especially happy with the waist and hip losses. I was worrying about the lack of weight loss which is why I decided to do the measurements today. I think the inches lost is a good sign. I’ve decided to tighten up the nutrition a bit (cut portion sizes back a bit) to make that number start to go down.
