Our Notion of Ideal Physique

I interpreted his question more like if you take a powerlifter and make it lost body fat to the same extend than BB, will he looks like a BB ?
That’s close to the question, would he look like that, but with some differences, such as more upper back and erectors, and less lats, more obliques but less 6 pack abs.

I don’t think the “ideal” bodybuilder physique has ever hinged on what those aforementioned professional athletes looked like. Football players in the 50s didn’t look like bodybuilders from that era to my knowledge. Powerlifters and WSM competitors as well as NFL players as of late run the gamut of “look like a bodybuilder” (Kroc and Mariusz come to mind, as well as many defensive linemen and linebackers) while others could never be mistaken for a bodybuilder.

In my opinion, the pursuit of a so called “ideal physique” has been just that. On the professional level, there is, and has been, a certain requisite “size” if you want to call it that to be considered Olympia worthy. But what bodybuilding comes down to is pursuing size, AS WELL AS symmetry.

I mean, does your ideal physique (some hypothetical ceiling you could reach after years of training and nutrition) look like anyone else? No. You could obtain as much symmetry as possible and still look like Shrek. That’s the difference between mortals and the pros.

Sorry if I digressed a little.

Here’s the thing, and maybe the athlete comparison was wrong, but I would rather look at pictures of Sergio, Arnold, Franco than Ronnie Coleman, or Jay Cutler.

I’m just trying to figure out why?
Perhaps you believe their physique to be more attainable? Some of the old school guys were not extremely gifted genetically, but worked hard with what they had. Maybe subconsciously you could never imagine being 300 pounds, and therefor if you could never attain that, you don’t like the look of some of the modern guys.

Here’s the real life example of that exact transformation.

And this one…

Ronnie hasn’t won the Olympia for 4 years now and a lot has changed.
The most recent guys that have been doing well have been looking pretty dang athletic and a lot less cartoony. It would be pretty awesome to look like Kai

I think even Pauline Nordin said something. Look bro:

´´Oh yeah, that applies to me. As a woman, I always battle the “want to be muscular, want to be leaner, want to be smaller, want to weigh less, want to fit into size 0.” Sometimes when I feel bloated, I get the feeling of having created a monster, like “how did I end up this muscular?” But then I stand side by side with a normal person and I look very small with clothing on.´´
