Other T-Men Who Don't Like Sports?

I dont like soccer.

I know, I know thats not a big deal in America, but not liking those godawful shenagigans in Europe…

I just dont see it…

I have never understood the fascination with sports. I can appreciate the level of athleticism and the amount of work that goes into being that good at something, but to get SO involved with it as some do is something I cant relate to. I’m kind of a low key guy though, so thats probably just how I am.

Watching a good highlight reel is about a much as I can get into it… Watching a game for 4 hours and jumping off the couch when someone catches a ball or yelling at the TV? Not so much

The level of fanaticism that people get for “their team” is also quite absurd to me. 90% of the time or more the person is not from the city they are playing for, and the only reason they play there is because of the money or they were basically forced too because they got drafted there. Why such insane devotion? As Jerry Seinfeld said… You’re really just rooting for the clothing.
I agree fully! Not a sports fan at all.

And as for what my conversations with other males is about: women, food, porn, movies, tv, food, women, the news, etc. They talk sports and I’ll listen. It’s not that hard really.

I also do not know enough about any sport to talk about it.

I mean I watch hockey and enjoy it, but when they have the show between periods everything the comentators say is like they’re speaking Chinese.
I mean, aren’t you in China? Are they in fact speaking Chinese?

Soccer annihilates me… they should be playing in an arena the size of a hockey rink. That would make it a shit-ton faster. I would watch if I was guaranteed to see a riot and trampling break out.

My kids took soccer when they were little and neither of them liked it, thank god. My youngest was more inclined to beat people up on the field… on his own team, so I yanked him from that.

I refer to soccer as “the girls kicking game”. Which does not go over well with some audiences.

Absolutely. If it was more like Speedball then I’d be happy to watch it.

I will go out on a limb here, but maybe teamsports are not his cup of tea?

He might beat up the referee?

That should work.

If he us busy on the floor, there is no chance of him attacking someone else.

I suggest a mouthpiece.

Bane style.

Not a sports fan either. But I do enjoy watching highlights from time to time. I will watch motorcycle racing though but it’s only an hour and only every couple of weeks. I will also go to games but don’t do so very often.

LOL at the “what do you talk about” question. If the only thing you’ve got in common with your friends is sports then maybe they aren’t that good of friends. In social situations I know enough about the games to be able to talk my way through. But nobody is ever totally shocked that I don’t watch sports.

I do enjoy playing sports though so I’m not anti-athletics.

I was never a sports fan. I guess football is one sport that is tolerable to watch but I would not waste time keeping up with stats or watching games on TV regularly.

Men who don’t like sports are what’s known as “women”.
I thought that was men who watch baseball.

I love sports, but don’t have cable and so I don’t keep up with them anymore. I spend my time hiking, fixing/building stuff, doing yard work, and training outside instead. I don’t think I’m less a man for substituting that stuff for sitting on a couch watching sports.

Wow, genuinely surprised there are so many on here that don’t like sports. Sports are the only reason I have cable.

I agree with those who said they would rather “do” than watch. Having lived in Denver for over 20 years I can honestly say that I am a Broncos fan. But I don’t plan my life around the Broncos’ schedule. If it’s a fresh powder day I’m going skiing and I’ll catch the highlights at night.

I also like watching strongman, and I’ll also watch Olympic lifting events on YouTube.

I’ve always been a football fan, but the past couple of years I’ve watched it less and less. And I blame fantasy football. Everybody glued to their laptops…it’s like being in a library while studying for finals. Definitely has taken the fun out of watching the game with friends. And I’m a bit of an outdoorsy guy. I go rock and ice climbing, skiing, and hiking. Fall, and Winter are my outdoor sports seasons so I’d rather be out playing than watching someone else play. But I’ll DVR playoff games if I’m out and keep up with stats and stories in the news.

I’ve always been a fight fan, boxing and MMA. And my wife is a UFC fan so it’s easy to put than on the TV without getting a funny look as if it were a football game.

i am glad there are other sport haters here. i work with this mega nerd, he has a wow account and is a star trek expert and has a linux os, and i just found out he loves football too. so that was surprising… at first.

i just cant believe that so many people lose their shit watching strangers play a game. and those movies like rudy, its a game people! football is a great game i agree, but im not going to watch it. maybe i’ll glance at it in the gym.

another thing, the way these sport fans talk about the players is… i dont know how to describe it. rude, solipsistic, simplistic. they make these players out to be pokemon. they are talking about people as having strictly defined attributes like this guy has +5 speed but he only has +2 defense. i dont listen to these guys so i cant give a good example but they act like the players can only do certain things and are bad at other things, and they cant change and they arent training hard every day to be a well rounded athlete. these sport fans are just nerds that want to play a dungeons and dragons game using people who could kick their ass

I love MMA and Basketball.

Football, baseball, soccer, hockey…i find them intolerable.

But i can understand how people can appreciate them. What i cant understand is how there are so many people who’s biggest joy in life is watching and following every damn sport religiously. People who follow baseball, hockey, football, basketball etc all in great detail and interest. How the fuck can all these different sports be so appealing? And how do you make time for anything else interesting?

I love watching and playing sports, I am one of those guys who will yell at my television and talk with my friends about it for hours on end. Its certainly not the only thing we talk about , yes we talk about life, serious issues and broads. What you non-sport watching people fail to realize that sports is quite frankly an escape.

If you want to dissect why people such as myself are so into sports of course you are going to find fault with it, but that goes for anything. I have friends who know jack shit about sports, but they love cars and I could care less. To each his own, but if your looking for a justification on why so many men go nuts for sports alot has to do with the escape, the history and devotion and how your family was brought up. Sports was huge in my household and happy it was.

the longest running threads on this site are devoted to team sports, which says something about bringing total strangers together, shit we even started fantasy football leagues through this site. Sports can be a great way to ignite conversation and forge a friendship that is deeper than just sports, it could be a stepping stone to great relationships.
