Anything that would increase pressure across the wound, pulling apart the edges should be avoided for a short time to let it heal. If that means doing nothing for a week, then do nothing. If you can do things that don’t cause discomfort in that area, then do so in moderation.
Ko, I understand where you’re coming from here. My only problem with internet medical advice is that we’re not there to see what’s going on firsthand. We can’t see the length of the laceration, the depth of it, whether or not it involved deeper structures, if it was across a joint or not, etc. If I had that info, maybe I would say something different here, but I don’t, not does anybody other than the doc that he saw. I don’t believe that doc gave the advice she did to avoid being sued either. The truth is that any idiot can sue anybody for any reason. The difference is that the doc is not legally responsible for what the patient does to the wound once it is approximated, closed appropriately, and proper discharge instructions are given. Sure, the patient can still sue, but it’s a losing battle there.
