“After consuming 3 pounds per day of U.S. Wellness Meats, my lean muscle has increased 25 pounds, while body fat percentage has decreased and believe it or not LDL cholesterol dropped 50 points. I have never had any training regime change impact my performance as much as the switch to grass-fed beef by U.S. Wellness Meats.”

I guess he doesn’t pay for it if he’s sponsored by them, huh?
I’d prefer it if more athletes endorsed corporations devoted to the wellness and good health of both humans, animals and the enviroment.

I used this also their reliable
For anyone in the northern California area I have some that will be ready soon. I raise my own so that I know exactly what I’m getting. I usually raise a little more than what I need and sell the rest to friends. I don’t charge extra just because it’s grass fed.
I haven’t checked with the butcher yet to find out what the current charges are for slaughter and cut and wrap but the price should be somewhere around $5.00 per pound.
I raised these calves since they were a couple weeks old and they’ve had no hormones or antibiotics. They’ve been grass fed on free range that has had no chemicals for at least 32 years. I sell whole, half or quarter beef.
Should be ready sometime in late June. I’m about 2 hours north of Sacramento.

Where are you in comparison to Chico? I’m going to be up there in 4 weeks.

That’s awesome, and a good price. I wish I was closer…I wonder how much shipping would be to Southern California…

They are a sponsor of North American Strongman so they are good in my book! I plan to buy a freezer and one of their 50lb packs of ground beef with my tax return, works out to about 4.50 a lb not to bad considered.
Question here and I hope I’m not hijacking, but I have read that once you go grass fed, it is likely if you you revert back to “regular” that you will become sick/hate it. Not deathly sick or anything but almost like a mild food poisoning sick. What are your experiences with this?
i won’t eat anything but 90+% lean beef if it is not grass fed. and even that is only when i can’t get my hands on it and want beef.
as for the taste, i would describe it as a bit gamey and a bit grassy, but for sure it tastes way better, especially when done blue rare.
www.gnlbeef.com is good too, they’re the guys I use. Colorado based company, offer some pretty decent packages.
Their president (Scott Gyurman) runs their booth at a farmers market here in Denver. He was telling me that their beef are fed grass until the last bit before slaughter and then finished with grains to take some of that gamey taste out of the flavor.
I mauled one of their tri-tips on Memorial Day and it was fantastic. Haven’t been able to get ahold of the fat profile yet, but he told me it was about 87-13.
Just my two cents
Another endorsement for grasslandbeef.com. I buy their sirloin steaks, london broil, and ground beef. Tastes great, quick shipping, and fair prices.
There’s a place here in NC called Baldwin Farms.
Their cows are a special breed specifically bred for grazing, and mighty tasty. I usually pick up some at the Farmer’s Market but I think they ship east of the Mississippi.
I believe Wegmann’s Grocers has grass fed beef and hormone free as well. The beef is like 2.70 a pound. I thought this was really cheap, but I guess they might have a special contract or something.
In Cali, Wild Oats has lots of nice cuts. Also, beware: Some people “finish” their cows with grain. This means they feed grass for some part of the cow’s life but then feed them grain for the last 30-60 (or more) days. You want grass-fed and grass-finished.
Of course, there is no way to know (outside of visiting a farm) whether a cow was really grass-fed. So buying grass-fed stuff is like buying supplements: Only buy from reliable sources.

Chico is about 40 miles southeast of Red Bluff. When I have an appointment in Chico I usually figure an hour to get there and I’m usually early.
For Cali Law (or anyone)
Does finishing the beef with grains make a big difference in fat profile? I was told that it didn’t alter the fat profile from being grass fed, it just takes some of the gamey taste out of the beef. Why do I get the feeling he was blowing smoke up my ass?
I’m going to have to check out some of these sites!
