orchiectomy

A rather embarrassing question on T-levels. I had a single orchiectomy (removal of one undescended testicle) when I was very young. Might this cause low T-levels? My sex drive is relatively low, and I wondered if this may be a cause. Anyone have any ideas?

as far as i know if the other testicle is in proper working order you should be just fine. might not hurt to get a doctor to test your test. levels if you feel it necessary.

Only one way to find out- get a test with your doc!

If your other testicle is still present in your abdomen or inguinal canal, then it certainly can still produce T. However it may be malformed, and this might have been a reason it didn’t descend as it should have, and in addition could also affect T produced.

In any case, as others may testify, a retained testicle greatly increases your chances of testicular cancer (not wanting to worry you too much). It would greatly benefit you to have regular check- ups with your doctor, and potentially imaging of the retained testicle (ultrasound or MRI) to determine it’s current location and structure.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, scrub that last answer- I misread the question. I thought the testicle was still present. My bad.

Anyway, the first part of my answer still applies. Sure, your testicle that remains will TRY to put out as much T as it can, as the LH signal for androgenesis will be strong. However there are phsiological limits, and it is quite possible your T levels will be low. Lance Armstrong receives HRT (legal due to his condition) since removal of a testicle due to cancer. So, see a doc asap and get your T levels checked.

Hope THAT helps

Yep, have your doc check out your test levels, depending upon what he says, HRT may be necessary. Maybe you can even find a cool doc to help you stay at “high-normal.”

Thanks for the replies. I was always under the assumption that like most organs of which we have two (for lack of a better way of putting it) that the other testicle would just pick up the slack if one was removed. However, hearing that Lance Armstrong receives HRT makes me wonder if I should be doing the same (I’m a competitive powerlifter). I’m going to get my T-levels checked, and since my doctor knows I’m a powerlifter, perhaps he’ll agree to HRT. Thanks again – you guys have made me feel a ton better.
