Is there anything wrong with orange juice mixed with whey for a post work out drink? I’ve read about the benefits of surge, chocalate milk and gatorade but what about orange juice.
Thanks, AC

Wrong NO
But 2 trhings to think about. Most orange juices are pretty crappy from concentrate and loaded with added High fructose syrups which are not the greatest any time including PWO. But if you can find a good brand or fresh squeezed bro have at it. it will be not as High II/GI but its still well orange minus the fiber anf I care not what anyone says fruit is good for us.
#2 Have you even mixed whey with a citrus juice?? You may not enjoy it to much even more so if your protein has casien in it. The acid makes the protein curdle. Now not bad but some ppl cant stand the texture etc. You can stop this by adding a bit of baking soda first to neutralize the acidity

Thanks for the reply Phill
1.The brand I have (Minute Maid) says 100% pure from concentrate with no added sweetners or preservatives. I hope this is correct

Fruit juice is mostly fructose, which will do next-to-nothing for muscle glycogen replacement. It will top off your liver glycogen stores, but the liver holds a pretty small amount of stored glycogen and that isn’t the aim of a PWO meal/shake anyway. Muscle glycogen is what you really need to be concerned about after an intense workout.
So, no, OJ is not very helpful for the purpose of workout recovery. If, on the other hand, you simply enjoy the taste, then by all means…
First of all, if you’re going to consume orange juice, go buy a juicer and make it yourself. The store bought orange juice is dead- it’s pasteurized and usually has added sugars such as HFC.
If you want, you can drink orange juice post workout, just make sure you’re having another carb source that isn’t fructose with it. There is nothing wrong with refilling both muscle and liver glycogen post workout.
So, for example, have a protein shake with Surge, and some Orange juice or a banana. The antioxidants from the raw orange juice will aid in faster recovery.

I didn’t mean to imply that from my post. Doing both is fine, but only refilling liver glycogen is not optimal. To the OP, sorry if that was not more clear.
I agree regarding the fresh juice.
